  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work back of house where I clean cars, prepare coffins and deceased, I also drive and bear at funerals. I also work on call shifts that require me to go out at all times of the night when someone’s loved one passes away. I cover most of East Yorkshire

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel I have furthered my technique with client relations, and feel more confident when I have to talk to clients. I feel my confidence has risen not only in myself but in my job. I have more sympathy, empathy and understanding which helps with those in need at that time.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my apprenticeship as I have to research a lot of areas what I may never research. I have better understandings of religion and what they entail. I really enjoyed answering questions of my role as i felt confident that I knew the answers In order to complete my work

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Unfortunately, I felt my assessor had a lot of work and clients to deal with so unfortunately many of times work was delayed or I have been forgotten about for a short while. Then when I did get my work, or modules that I needed to do, I get rushed due to the delay waiting for it meaning my Apprenticeship lasted longer than originally discussed when caused me some worry.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer supported me fully and gave me time during work hours in order to complete the work necessary to fulfil my apprenticeship. I was allowed to use computers and print things out that I needed. Colleagues also helped in support of i was unsure and would point in the right direction for research.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Although my assessor was fantastic and couldn’t fault her and I felt I gained a friend. I just felt that her company had put a lot of clients on her and made her time very restricted where sometimes I could get delays of weeks or months where no work was completed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel I perform better because I have gained new knowledge of areas and gave me confidence what I didn’t think I had. I understand religions and funeral types which helps clients because of this knowledge and therefore I can make clients happy in their hours of need. Plus many more areas.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Community work but I find this limiting because I have children and therefore my days off are usually the only days I have with them. Also it is very restricted as we have limited budget for costs and ideas. Plus we cover a large area so struggle to do all areas.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I like that we keep update with new policies and training. We are high standards and keep everything clean and tidy and follow correct procedures on everything. Staff are good, friendly and welcoming and respectful. We are fair and will do anything for families to give them the send off their family deserve

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Research our policies and promise. The history behind our company (which is very surprising and educational) and apply online. We only select the genuine caring people who can bring something to our coop family what will be in the best interest for families. Research our hearse choices and what other areas we offer in coop such as food, insurance etc.
