  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role within the BMW apprenticeship involves learning about the various aspects of mechanical engineering in an automotive manufacturing environment. This is both classroom and workshop based. One day a week is devoted to classroom learning, whilst the rest of the week is dedicated to workshop based learning and assesments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills since starting my apprenticeship with BMW. I have gained a fundamental understanding of electrical principles, a deeper understanding of mechanical properties and there real world applications, improved my communication and leadership skills and also become far more competant with my IT skills than I ever thought I could.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I highly enjoy what I am doing and what I am learning. Everyday presents itself with new learning opportunities and I am constantly being pushed to be the best I can be. Since starting the apprenticeship I have thorughly enjoyed every moment and always to look forward to every new day.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured in such a way that we are constantly busy learning new skills and techniques. These skills and techniques will be vital for my career in engineering and the way in which this programme is structured ensures that I will have the necessary skill set required to succeed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is constantly monitoring my progress, and as such is always aware of any help or support that I may need. I feel that should I need to talk to them about anything, I can. And that should I require any extra support they would be more than willing to accomodate my needs.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is extremely supportive in helping me work towards my qualification. An example of this would be an evening drop in maths class that has been put on for everyone and anyone to attend who would like more help with some of the subjects we cover in engineering.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • By giving us all the material and information that we need to succeed in an engineering environment my qualification will teach me all I need to get me started in the world of engineering. I feel confident that I wil be well equiped and ready when I finish my qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is currently a football team that has been created by my fellow apprentices. This is a great way of building team spirit and is open to anyone who may want to participate. We also go out for social drinks now and again, and I really feel that my fellow collegues are more like a family to me now than mere work mates.

  • Yes

  • This is a great opportunity for you to start on a journey that will equip you with all the relevent and necessary skills that you will need to excel in a career in engineering. Everyday is full of learning and you will constantly be pushed to acheive more and become a better person in the process.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Don't hesitate, just apply! You will not regret it at all and you will only look back upon your time with fond memories. You will be in the best hands and best environment to reach your goals and attain the skills needed to become an engineer. The harder you work the more you will gain, and I can say with out any doubt that I would recommend this apprenticeship to anyone and everyone.
