  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day provides something new for me to either learn, share or develop. This can be from new training days online through the TUI Academy or out of the office delivered by third parties. This provides a variety of methods for development each week. On a day to day basis i have a selection of tasks to complete also known as BAU; from answering query emails, updating content, redirecting URL's, remove broken links, schedule new articles and monitor performance with reports. Once i have become competent around a new responsibility i am asked if i would like to take on more and keep developing each month.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I came straight from A-Levels to TUI with very little real business skills. I did have a good foundation of soft-skills which i have developed over the past 7 months with my team, manager and apprenticeship organisers. I'm now a lot more confident to network, attend meetings on my own because my business knowledge has enhanced significantly. I've attend many external conference training and then shared back with the wider team. I am really grateful with the opportunities provided by TUI to develop personal and professional skills. I have rated 8 because there is always room for improvement.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my apprenticeship with TUI. I feel valued as an colleague and not looked down upon just for being an apprentice. TUI's culture is great, having a positive work culture reflects positively on employee atmosphere and work. There are frequent department meetings highlighting and reflecting outstanding work as well as areas for improvement. My team culture is more like a family, I have never felt so comfortable and at ease working. Everyone is so supportive of one another and i have never been left out. In fact i will be sad to leave this team as i move round on rotation for my apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Even though this is the first time TUI have taken on Degree Apprenticeships their knowledge and understanding of what type of support is required through other grad schemes has made this journey very easy. There will always be teething problems which they have dealt with as soon as they arrived with appropriate action and reflection of success.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive fortnightly 1 to 1 with my direct line manager as well as team manager to discuss both work responsibilities and university progress. Also within my team i have a mentor that i see for coffee every now and then when something is on my mind - she is great! The HR team always involve us in any learning week to share our experiences with others interested in the apprenticeship. We then have a CMDA Forum every other months where everyone on the apprenticeship gets together to discuss queries and worries, which are lead by the head of the apprenticeship and she answers as much as she can or lets us know by email. The general attitude of support by our head of CMDA has been phenomenal, and if there are any on-going issues she deals with them instantly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The only concern around support is the accessibility of our 20% off the job. There are desks and booths in the building to complete university work, however the likely hood of them being free or quiet is very slim. This makes it difficult for me to focus and sometimes i wish i had more support and less judgement of leaving the building to go to a library during the working week to complete outstanding university assignments. I receive support on university assignments if i am struggling to understand a question which i really appreciate because they have more business knowledge than me. However, i only ask these sorts of questions outside my work hours as i don't want to disturb my colleagues working day.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It does provide good theory for certain projects and underlines what aspects are more vital to a business than others. Personal development has helped me understand and priorities my work load and learn to utilise work management tools. Having to complete my university assignments on TUI allows me to research the company and understand different areas of the business that i do not usually work in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is plenty of additional activities to get involved with, it is just finding the time to join in. There is a choir, running club, gym discount, free bus ride to and from the town centre three times a week and leaning weeks that happen monthly for all employees to sign up to. I have signed up to three: build your professional profile, learn sign language and sharing my personal development plan. We also have many social events happening throughout the year whether that is an immediate team, wider team or department outing. TUI Reward scheme provides discount for many major attractions from Merlin to Odeon for out of office activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Overall this is a great company to work with and for, this apprenticeship has been amazing for developing both my personal and professional skills and knowledge and i have learnt so much from as little as 7 months. This programme allows me to rotate yearly around departments in the company to get a hands-on feel of that role and whether it would be suitable for me in the future. This is a great way to encourage and enhance career paths, particularly for younger people like me.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • Ensure you research the company and understand what they do well and areas for improvement as this important to go into a company with good futuristic ideas of development. Know what you want to achieve by being at this company and make a list. Ensure that TUI's culture is one that you want to work for because it is not suited and booted work attire, it is an open, interactive and fun company to work for.
