  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage quality within the destinations around the world that TUI UK&I fly to. This includes Hotel and Apartment quality, Staff Service levels, and Airport Transfers. Most of my time is spent within the head office in Luton, however it is important that i see the hotels in operation. For this reason I get flown all over the world!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since being in the role I have learnt a lot more of the functionality with Excel. I have developed my Powerpoint skills to be more business-like as I have to send presentations to the Directors of the company. In University I have learnt about Quantitative Methods, Globalisation within Business and much more.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love being an apprentice! The whole of the TUI UK&I business want us to succeed - So everyone is asking about our development, what we are studying, which assignments we have to do and if they can help. As well as the support at work; the things I am learning at University are amazing

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is really well organised and structured. When at university we have colleagues from the business come in and deliver some learning. Our assignments tend to be TUI-Based so we we can directly see how our studying will contribute to our work. This also generates better understanding of the business and sector that we operate within.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • TUI UK & I are a great support. Even before the apprenticeship TUI bought all of us together so that we could meet. Those that weren't living in the area could discuss house sharing and those that were new to the business could get to grips with it before starting University.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have mentors who offer advise and support. Our lecturers are always available. They will often come into our workplace and hold drop in sessions so that any questions, queries or potential problems can be discussed face to face. Those who work further away are able to arrange Skype meetings. There's also the CASE centre where they hold learning sessions for things such as Maths and Harvard Referencing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I will be in a lecture and we will be learning about SWOT or PESTLE analysis and i will be thinking 'I could use this next week when i have to do ... and ...'. Our learnings from Quantitative Methods have improved my excel and data analysis functions ten fold. Very good indeed.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is always something going on. They have a netball team, there's a running group, they advertise for people to do Tough Mudder. But without a doubt, the greatest social activity/networking event that is held at TUI is the TUI Knitting Club! The Knitting Club meet twice a week and will teach people how to knit or crochet - it's a great way to spend time away from your desk, learn a new skill and meet other people from around the business!
