  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to repair and maintain wind turbines that are currently offshore. On a day to day basis I usually complete required tasks like checks on different systems, top ups on oils and greases and ensure that the turbine is available to start at the end of the day for the customer.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting this apprenticeship I have found that I have gaining lots of new skills as well developing my existing skills. When working offshore the skills that you have are always becoming better and better and you start to build a huge skill base in order to complete the job in hand

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme that I am currently on is fantastic. I have learnt so much so far and I have only stractched the surface of what is possible. When I’m working, I am interacting with people from all walks of life and they are able to ensure that they help me like I will help them in different situations

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the apprenticeship is good from the layout that is shown to you when you first start off. At the start it was plain sailing and easy to see where they wanted to take the programme but there have been a couple of issues like bad communication and confusion along the way.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my employer I have received a lot of support and they have always found time to help when I need it. When I needed to get new pieces of PPE it was quick I’m getting it and being delivered to where it needs to be as well the correct information that comes with it

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I revive a lot of support from my training provider to ensure that I am on the right track to revive my qualifications on time and get the best of the qualification as well. When completing questions if I haven’t met the full criteria then there is support in place in order for me to meet it second time round

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through the training provider it makes you think about you are going to do the job properly, but having said that the qualification doesn’t always relate to what I am doing when at work and the questions that have been set aren’t always revelant to the occupation that I am doing

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Through the company there are number of different extra curricular activities that people can get involved in such as the football tournament that Siemens have each year with other Siemens across the country and charity events such as the Race For Life which is held in different places each year which is Siemens giving something back to the community

    10/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Siemens is known around the world for Being one of the best companies to work for and how they look you. The company is also frowning massively in the wind turbine industry section which means that they are now the largest company in the world of wind energy and they are only going to get bigger and have more jobs available

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • One of the biggest tips I would give someone is if they are going to choose to be a travel technician is are they going to miss home a lot when they are away working as some people cannot cope with it. The biggest bit of advice I could give someone applying is to knuckle down to get the best out the apprenticeship programme and take any opportunities that arise
