  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible for setting up the business for service and running my shift. This includes cash handling, customer service, orders and deliveries, complaint handling. I am also responsible for my employees and making sure they are working effectively and must delegate duties to them and check that these have been completed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my leadership skills and learnt new ways of communicating with my employees and also learned conflict management skills. My customer service skills have improved through building on my communication skills and learning new ways to manage complaints. My confidence in my ability to do my job and progress in my career has also grown.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme and felt it was beneficial to attend workshops as this helped get support from other learners and allowed me to build relationships with colleagues in the same position as myself. The support from trainers was great and helped me to complete my workload. The activities the trainers used was also transferable and I was able to use them with my team.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course is well structured and the agreed workload and deadlines that my lifetime trainer set helped me to stay focused and on track for early completion. The training days were also well structured and I have been able to use some of the activities with my staff at team meetings.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I did not get a lot of support from my general manager as I did not feel that it was needed as I had plenty ty of support from my trainer from lifetime and Greene King. My general manager did however make it clear to me that she was available to help me if I needed it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received plenty of support from my training provider and they were happy to give additional help if needed. They set the workload and the deadlines for each trainer and helped me to achieve mine. If I was struggling with anything they were available either through email or over the phone.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My training provider helped me to complete the course and this has helped my develop skills that makes me better in my role. I have developed key leaderships skills and learned new ways of working and communication techniques which I was able to pass on the others. I have also learned new ways to manage complaints and shared this with my staff.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are often training events to attend which are specific to my role. This is an opportunity to learn new skills and also get together with colleagues and share ideas and network. There is also fundraising events which you can get involved in and gets you out of the business and doing something that helps good causes.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It’s a good place to work although the hours are long. They invest in their employees and are looking at ways to make working conditions better for their employees. Team member benefits are improving and they are looking at investing in internal progression. This means there is plenty of opportunities for people to develop working at Greene King.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Work hard and make the most of the opportunities that are available. Make the most of the training that is available and use the online training tools provided to develop your skills and this will help you progress. The online training tool allows you to take charge of your own learning and development, doing this will impress your manager and make you a candidate for progression.
