  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • on a day to day basis at wilkos I serve customers at the till, help customers find what they are looking for around the shop floor, face the shelves so they all look presentable to customers, some days we fill the shelves with new stock or new layouts, then at the end of the day its a matter of cashing up and making sure everything balances for that day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am always wanting to learn new things and I am currently in the process of learning a lot more, I have recently learnt how to gap scan and how to make a rota/ staff schedule, I am currently learning to become a keyholder so I am looking forward to all the new stuff I will be learning there

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme quite a lot but do occasionally feel nervous when having to do a new thing for the first time but the nervousness soon passes so far none of it has been boring so it has kept me wanting to do it my trainer was a lovely person and we had such a good laugh

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it was very well organised till my trainer left we then got a new trainer which I haven't yet met because last time they came I was on holiday but I am sure the new trainer will be just has good although I have spoke to her on the phone and will be speaking to her on the phone again soon

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I can have has much support has I need but so far I have not needed too much support she gives me tasks to do and I have usually completed them by the next time she comes but I am quite sure if support was needed she would make sure I was able to access the support needed

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • she supports me with it all and always says if I am unsure of anything at all I can email her, so far I have not needed to email her has I think I am doing ok at it and understanding all the tasks she gives to me, although may need support with my maths.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • because when a situation rises you tend to stop and think a minute and you think what would my training provider encourage me to do or say and you start to think of all the modules we have done and what would be in 1 of the modules that may help us with this situation

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • no I am afraid there isn't, although our company is a very large company our store is a very small store so we don't do any workplace or professional networking events although we do occasionally have what we call a in the loop meeting which is when we read the suggestions out what members of the staff put in the in the loop box .

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • they have been good to me and I have learnt an enormous amount of things through this company they are always polite and willing to help wherever they can they make you feel welcome and not like an outcast, and my motto is if I can learn it anyone can learn it


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wilko?
  • be yourself don't try to be something you are not, don't try to make your self sound too good because if you need help and they know it they will help you achieve whatever you want to achieve, some of them will go that extra mile to make life fun
