  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I help to deal with customer needs raging from things very basic such as account information to more complex tasks such as credit car requests and new account openings. All of these tasks mean that I need to speak to a range of people on a daily basis including people externally and internally from the bank.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a range of new skills within my role, on of the most important being communication. As I was a school leaver joining straight to the bank I was used to speaking to people within my age range on a daily basis. However within my role I have had to adapt to speak to all sorts of different people. This has helped my confidence massively and ensured I can now speak to anyone.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my programme as it has meant I have been able to learn about the banking world whilst being able to work full time. I have however had issues with my provider in trying to complete certain aspects of my apprenticeship. This however has been picked up by a new and very helpful assessor who is helping me to get to the end of this.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall my apprenticeship has been well structured in the sense of planning. Having given us a timeline this was easy for us to stick to and to be able to instantly see where you should be with different aspects of the apprenticeship. Having the VLE has also helped everyone to stay in touch.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received the necessary support from my provider both with my exam and my workbooks. I had a lot of trouble with changing over assessors as this has caused some delays in getting my programme completed however this has been picked up and looked over by a new assessor.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I joined straight from school I wasn't overly familiar with the banking structure or the way the bank worked. However as I was put through my Professional Bankers Certificate I have learned about both the past and present history of banking, this has gave me an insight to how everything works and how things are moving.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have been involved in numerous extra activities outside of my role. This has been beneficial to my network and learning new things. For example I have attended external events for intermediaries of the bank but I have also been able to take part in things such as the KiltWalk

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe that RBS is a good place to work and a good place to start your career. Getting put through the necessary exams is an important part of this as it shows the bank are looking to further your career and help to qualify you for the role you are looking to get to.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Be confident in what you do but also make sure you ask questions when you can and when you need to. This may seem daunting in a room of people you don't know however it is important to your learning and experience within your new role, this will also be helpful in getting to know new colleagues
