  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work a 4-week rotational shift, which involves evenings and weekends. I am a 1st level IT support worker, so the majority of my day is spent monitoring networks for clients and ensuring all functionality is normal, and escalating issues that arise. The area of the business I work within is very specified to the role

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before I came in to this role I had a very limited experience within the IT field, having only had personal experience. After working for a few months I have become a lot more proficient with working with IT systems, and the education I receive at college has been very beneficial towards my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the apprentice program a lot. I never could have imagined myself working in such a technical role, but the way the program has been laid out has helped me ease in to the role gradually and get more comfortable as I progress. College has also supplemented this experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is very well structured. It began with a 5 week boot camp to allow everyone an opportunity to get up to speed with basic IT skills as well as some more intermediate studying. The study program is well paced, allowing plenty of time to do coursework and study

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is fantastic at supporting me through the apprenticeship program. I have a mentor as well as 2 highly trained teammates, so if I ever have an issue or a query, there will be someone near hand to help me out. I am also afforded plenty of time towards studying during working hours

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider has a lot of resources available through the college website. Whilst our time in class is limited to 1 day a week, my tutors are happy to answer emails and provide feedback after hours. The resources available from the college are very good and all my needs are catered for

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Whilst the role I perform is very specific to the job, and not everything I study in college relates to this, it still provides a valuable insight into areas within the IT industry that I would not have considered before. The skills I have gained through my training provider are transferrable and would benefit me greatly if I chose to proceed to a different area of the business after the apprenticeship program is complete.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As far as I am aware there are no extra curricular activities within my office (although I could be mistaken, as I work in shifts and the rest of the business seems to be Monday to Friday 9 to 5, there can be a disconnect between my team and the rest of the staff)

  • 9a. Would you recommend Fujitsu to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • So far Fujitsu has been a wonderful company to work for. Everyone I speak to has nothing but good things to say about the company, and there always seems to be loads of opportunities for career progression. My experience so far has been a very good one, and I look forward to continuing my career with Fujitsu

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fujitsu?
  • Keep an open mind. Some areas of the business seem uninteresting or possibly a dead end, but staff are always moving between business areas, and there are skills to be gained at each. Apply for any role that is advertised and give it a go. Learn some facts about the company before your interview!
