  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to support project managers in acquiring and maintaining data sources and new contributors. this involves looking at stale prices and contacting clients, as well as helping out with project based work involving data feeds. I also have a shift on our live help desk, helping clients to solve any issues they may have with their data contributions

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In my apprenticeship i have gained a good understanding of economic terminology and finance, through online based courses offered by Bloomberg. I have also improved some of my coding knowledge as i have had to use them in a couple of my projects. I have also improved my people skills as i deal with clients on a daily basis.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy my programme on my day to day, there is a lot of variety in what i do and I find the subject matter both challenging and interesting, i am given a lot of freedom and responsibility in what i do and there is a great degree of trust between myself and my team.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the training itself is quite well structured, there are set modules that contain coursework to help revise the topics, as well as work which is then presented in the classroom. The QA team are timely in marking the submitted coursework and provide feedback to where improvements or adjustments can be made

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i feel that the qualification itself helps me with regards to the client based side of my work as this falls under business management/admin, although there are a number of parts to my job that are more aligned to a data analyst course as i spend a lot of my day analysing data and helping to set up new data feeds. I don't always find that the course is entirely relevant to my day to day

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are a number of different activities that are available to get involved in, i know of a few sports teams and football teams that are made up of colleagues. There is also the ability to carry out volunteer work through our Best of Bloomberg programme in which we help the local community in a number of ways i.e soup kitchens or helping with schools, these are all good opportunities to meet new people and network.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bloomberg to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Bloomberg has a great, open company culture which makes it incredibly easy to meet new people and to shadow them to further your knowledge on a subject. There has also been a lot of support with regards to the apprenticeship internally and the course feels structured and well laid out.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg?
  • The biggest tip i could give someone when applying is to show genuine passion in the field you are applying for, it genuinely shows in the interviews when you are passionate and would enjoy the role you are applying for. I would also say to show a degree of pro activeness, there is a lot of opportunity to learn and grow as an individual with courses or the ability to shadow other teams, but none of it is on a plate and you must want to go out and expand your knowledge.
