  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a data scientist requires me to complete multiple tasks on a daily basis. This can include meetings with stakeholder, coding and even learning new techniques or new coding languages. My most important role is to extract meaning from and interpret data that has been given to me by a stakeholder.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been on 2 Tableau courses which were both paid for by my team, this has provided me with more than just general knowledge of tableau. I have also further developed my python skills by having access to datacamp which is a course provider. This was all given to me by my team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The company overall is a great place to work in, the building is new and my team are amazing. They are always very supportive and they always treat me with respect even though i am an apprentice. They always help me and answer my questions when i need anything or if i am stuck on a piece of work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have received a full timetable of my webinars and exactly what dates they will be on on. However I don't have any idea about what my exams will cover and what dates they will take place in, also they have just swapped two modules around so they swapped all the dates around to suit the modules.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager provides me with a lot of support when I need it but he also knows when I should have to figure something out on my own. He has provided me with training courses and he has provided me for the licence to datacamp and other training websites where i have learnt many new skills.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The only support we recieve is from the live webinars which happen on 1 day a week which is a thursday, otherwise i have to email my Skills Coach and ask him questions and then he will have to get back to me with the answer which can sometimes take days or weeks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Most of the things that i have learnt to do with my role i have learnt on my own, or from other colleagues, the apprenticeship hasnt taught me much and most likely will only add a little to my overall job expertise. So far it hasnt helped me as much as i would have hoped it to.

  • 9a. Would you recommend FCA to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Overall its a great company to work for, they show a lot promise and they try to help you develop as a person and in your professional working life. There is a lot of room to move up through the ladder in the FCA too. The staff are friendly and the facilities are great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to FCA?
  • Just be yourself, when i applied for the apprenticeship, i never experienced the interviews and the whole day of activities before. On the phone when you speak to the recruiter make sure that you research the company and the you research the relevant information about your role and make sure that when you talk about the company or your role you put passion into your voice just to show that you really want this role.
