  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I assist my relationship manager with looking after is portfolio of clients. My day to day task are preparation of materials for client meetings, regular interactions with clients, completing lending appetite documents, and introducing clients to your new banking products. I am also an advocate of all the banks new software as I am a proud promoter of inventive and open banking.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have developed several of skills during the apprenticeship. These include communication skills and how to interact with clients during meetings. I have also learnt baking requirements when it comes to regulations and compliance and what we need to assure we do to comply with regulations. I have also furthered my It abilities at the bank. And finally I learnt to understand financial metrics and reading balance sheets and annual accounts.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme. I the start it was really hard to understand the corporate style, after some time I learnt to adapt to their style and build a very good relationship with my manger and my team. I really enjoy going out to meetings and meeting our clients. You get to meet some great characters and really see how we our supporting their business. My manager has been really good at making sure I go out to all the meetings and meet he customer in person.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is really well organised, most of my day I complete my day to day work tasks,my manger always couple hours a week to complete my apprenticeship course work and to study for the exam. I always busy at work making sure our customer receive the best service that we can offer them!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive full support from my team and the management. The bank heavily invests in people and their training by offering professional qualifications and giving them study leave time. This is great as it motives people to stay with the bank and further their knowledge and their career. I receive full support for my apprenticeship work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive around 6 weeks for every course work section that I need to complete to pass my apprenticeship. They also provide you with lots of material for studying for the exam and professional qualification. The only thing that sometimes is frustrating is that the support from the learning provider can take a long time to reply to my enquires.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like the qualification gives you very good fundamentals to support you in your role. It teaches you all the basic regarding financial services, banking and the regulations within the industry. I do feel that if you want to achieve further in your banking career this qualification isn't enough and that you would need to compete additional qualifications to get promoted.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • RBS is really exceptional at making sure that all their employees find some external activates that they can get involved in. I recently completed "Money Sense" which is a campaign to further kids knowledge about financial services and money in schools. I personally went into a secondary school where I helped raise kids awareness regarding business plans and future funding start-ups. Other big groups that you can join are Women clubs and varies charities causes.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think for anyone that is interested to start a career in banking would really enjoy this course and learn the crucial skills that are required for a banking career. The course also provide you the knowledge that is useful not only in the financial services industry but across all industries. Such as discipline, problem solving and taking ownership.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • I think you really need to be genuinely interested in financial services to enjoy the course so I would recommend really researching the course and making sure it suits your interests. Once you know you would like to apply make sure you explain why you would like to apply and that your application stands out amongst the 1000s others.
