  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role in Mazars is audit. I do sections such as transaction testing which includes vouching samples back to bank statements and invoices. I also test balance sheet areas by ensuring numbers are complete, items exist and the value of items. Other things include planning and completing jobs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Some of the skills I have learnt is how to talk to clients professionally face to face and over email. Another skill I have learnt is how to use excel. Before I started I could only use basic functions, but now I know how to use pivot tables and vlookups

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much as I am gaining on the job experience whilst gaining a qualification equivalent to a masters without having to go through uni. The people who I work with are friendly and help me to gain the experience I need. I also have a good work-life balance

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured as I know when I am sitting my exams. For example I had a year to complete my first 6 exams, and then after this I am sitting my first three professional levels in June 2019, then the last three in December 2019. I will complete my advance level in 2020

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer as I am given set time to study for my exams and if I am struggling I know I can go to my employer and they will put other measures in place to help me pass my exam such as seeing a tutor

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe I don't receive as much support as I would want. For example I emailed the support team to ask for advice on a question and I was told to speak to my tutor, however as I study from home, I do not have a tutor. I was not told who to contact

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that the skills that I have learnt through our exams are relevant to our job and can help to know how to treat certain items. It is also helpful as when clients ask you a question, I can refer back to my knowledge I have learnt from studying

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are social activities such as quarterly meetings with an organised social event after. When the new starters join every month we have a organised event to get to know them. For example last year we had a bbq and drinks. There is also networking events available such as drinks with other firms

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mazars LLP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because at such a young age you are earning a graduate salary without the debt. Everyone is young and you make good mates. You learn a lot and at 21 you are qualified whilst your school peers are just leaving uni and have to build a career for themselves whereas you are in a solid job

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mazars LLP?
  • Do not worry. I was afraid that everyone was going to be middle aged and I would have no social life, but it is the opposite. Everyone is young and you have time at the weekends to go out. You also make new mates. I would advice to go In at school leaver level as you gain the same qualification as a grad.
