  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to manage a team effectively, consistently implement and follow out company policies and procedures. Time management and customer service skills, continually push you knowledge of learning and development and rule this out to others. Lead by example and manage cash flows effectively by ensuring products are correctly placed for purchase.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have learned to develop my skills in many different topics and areas, such as smart targets, profit and loss, 360 feedback and communication. I am developing in management skills and how to adapt different styles of management to colleagues and what can I do to support and encourage them to go further.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well structured and given timescales to complete in. But the lack of guidance from your training institution if negligible. You are encouraged to sign up but are left to independently learn when your trainer has to manage other people, also there is know knowledge to your management to be able to help you in scenarios when you are stuck.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Employer support is minimal, you are given somewhere to learn and offered support if it is needed. Independently if you and asking for help from a manger if they have time its great if not you are left to your own devices to figure it out as they are as clueless as you are in the same situation learning something new.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I can't say that I recieved support and have had my appointments arranged on 3 occasions and the trainer turned up late to my induction. It is highly unprofessional and I started work earlier to come to the joiner induction but was left annoyed waiting when i was on time and reliable then once i enrolled and joined i was told i had to independently learn and navigate my way around the portal and given a deadline to complete the topics, and also had to do maths and English in addition to working a apprenticeship course aswell.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives me a wider insight into how to manage a team and what styles and approaches I could take, and the current legislation and laws. But it isnt a 1 style fits all approach and isnt generic to many different companys and job roles so I would say it should be more specific to your role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately this isnt offered on a regular basis, but progression is achievable of you can demonstrate you are good at your job role. You also need to find the right manager that will work with you to help you reach your goal and of they have the time to support you. It is usually easiest when you are full time as you are given more complex jobs to handle.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Primark to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • Although it is good to progress, many people consider it as a side line job or pocket money. It has a high turnover of younger generation less an older population. If there was more information on progression and more management that had the time to help there employees it would be a better company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Primark?
  • Be honest and see it through. It is repetitive, but it does have its advantages to work for as it is unlikely the company will go bust. It was one of the highest paid retail companys a few years ago but has since lost its niche. It would be great to see it value its colleagues more and make them partners not employees. Alot of hard work goes into the stores day and night so bonuses and profit share schemes wouldn't go unnoticed
