  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a first line SOC analyst, I am chiefly responsible for the initial triage of alarms and incidents as the occur on our multiple SIEM platforms and ticketing systems. It is my job to ensure all issues are passed to the correct team in a timely manner with all necessary information available.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I began this role with only a very top level knowledge of cyber security and IT infrastructure. I have been afforded plenty of time in order to develop this knowledge and use it in the workplace. I am working towards several formal qualifications with the support of my employer. I feel very encouraged to develop.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find the work interesting and am enjoying the different challenges, the opportunities for learning mean there is rarely a dull day. I am part of a small team who have become good friends and I enjoy working along side them. It has proved to be a comfortable working environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprentice program I am working on seems well structured, covering a variety of topics and knowledge modules, encouraging both theory and practical work in order to improve my abilities as much as possible. In terms of organisation I feel there has been a large delay in beginning the first training course, I am concerned I am going to be left with a lot of work to do in the back end of my apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Very early in my time at Fujitsu I had a conference call arranged with the apprentice team who talked me through the process as well as offering any support should I need it, they have stayed in touch since then. The company have always allowed me the time I need to complete my apprentice work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I would like to see better communication from my training provider, I have gone several weeks without a reply to an email and even then only received on after I have chased them up. When we are in a meeting they can be supportive but I would like to hear more from them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As part of my role as first line analyst I am required to gather as much relevant data as I can to support the resolver team, the more I learn through my provider's training the better I will be at providing this relevant support. I am also gaining the skills to perform more roles within my SOC team.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My company offers many additional activities that I could become involved in, particularly through the apprenticeship team. I have recently agreed to join several members of my team in playing football, as well being fun this also gives me the opportunity to get to know the rest of my team which will improve our ability to work together.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Fujitsu to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • As a new joiner to this company I have had no major issues at all. I am encouraged to develop myself, I enjoy the role, I have some excellent colleagues, I am fairly paid for my work with excellent incentives. Joining Fujitsu has been a big step up for me.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fujitsu?
  • Although there is plenty of support available to you, no one will hold your hand and guide you through it. Be prepared, be organised and make a plan of what you want to achieve and how you want to work. This is a great opportunity and you will get out what you put into it.
