  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in the Trustee Advisory Investment Team. My role consists of helping large client pension schemes invest their sizable amounts of money to help pay of their long term liabilities (pension benefits). This includes work around transition management, performance monitoring, Investment strategy reviews, liasiing with admin, investment managers, quarterly/monthly reporting and other interesting ad hoc pieces. I work alongside a research team (research asset classes and managers), asset allocation teams (which monitors economics and politics)

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt and incredible amount of skills. From communication skills, presenting, accuracy, investment knowledge, time management, transition management, investment strategy work, and work realting to various Aon models and systems. I am given challenging tasks and repsonsibilty, so I am exposed to so many various unique tasks. I have largely improved in all of them since starting.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my time at Aon, as i am given great opportunities in types of work. I am seen as part as the team and find myslef working on very similar task new graduates work on. The challenging work given to me is great because i can test myself and expose myself to new information.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme gives me 20% study for the IMC exams as we as time off using the training provider fitch. There is room for improvement from the training provider as the structure isnt very clear nor consistant. That being said, it does provide you with all the elements to the programme and you have lots of support if anything is unclear.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Aon offers amazing support. That isnt being said out of thin air. Their help os evidential in the the atmosphere and culture. They give you time off for study and emply a trainig provider for the exams. In addition from grads to partners, everyone helps you on work you dont know what to do. As we are given challenging work, which is excellent.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We meet regularly with the training provider to discuss progress and improvement. They provide you with great materials and also you have a one to one talent coach. In addition there is an app, a portal to track evidence, and a learning centre. Although communucation can sometimes be tough, overall is a really good provider.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am still in the early stages of qualifications, but they provide great groundworks for the role as it is all applied to real work ort you have to have it as background knowledge. For example, the regulartoy information is needed. The CFA courses really apply to your day to day role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have many social activities. we go out for lunch ofte, have after work drinks, there is a small social life amongst the apprentices which is good fun. There is plently of networking events, some related to apprenticeships of some external to the business. There are plenty of opportunities to learn from other professionals (internal/external)

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Aon treats you as if you are almost a grad and gives you challening work as well as small admin tasks. They get you heavily involved with challening work and discussions at senior level. They help with you exams from IMC to CFA. The culture and atmosphere is great, to enhance your career. That alongside all the benefits such as the location, office space, pensions, healthcare, starbucks (only in london), pay. Chances to work hard and prove yourself to get new opportunities.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Make sure you have given the style of work thought as you will be doing it all the time and for a long time. Also makes sure you have researched the indursty and the company to discuss and show it in your interview. Have interesting items on your CV (i.e. work experience, volunteering,)
