  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • For the first year of my apprenticeship I studied at north west training council. A normal day consisted of spending time in the workshop furthering my skills and knowledge in areas such as electronics, fluid power, bench fitting, milling & turning and many more other aspects of mechatronics. On mondays I attended BTEC lessons to gain my BTEC qualification.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time as an apprentice, I feel I have learnt a vast amount of new skills as I had never studied these subjects before. All of the tutors were willing to put their time and effort into helping me if I got stuck when carrying out an activity in the work shop.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship especially now that I based in the factory. I feel I am learning a lot more as there are many more hands on jobs that are available to do. As well as this, all of the other engineers let me get stuck in and help out.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The college side of things was a little unorganised. However, it did not really make a difference to my year as we got around all of the work shop areas in a good amount of time. This allowed us to go back to the factory just after the first year.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All of the tutors were very willing to put their own time and effort into helping me if I got such when carrying out an activity in the work shop. As well as this, on the BTEC day if I was struggling to understand the teachers would help me out.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are no official extra-curricular activities provided by my company. However, there are people who have set up their own clubs or societies such as golf. There are numerous charity events that take place to raise money and spread awareness. These events are also good for networking with colleagues and outside personnel.
