  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I deal with Commercial customers of the bank. I help them with queries on a day to day basis, this is either over the phone or by email. This can range from general questions about items on the account to needing new bank accounts to be opened up with us. This is very fast paced in what they require from us.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to deal with financial accounts & how to understand these. I have developed on my existing email & phone skills from my previous jobs & that has helped me in this current role. It is about how to interact with Directors & other staff members of different companies throughout the UK.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is engaging as I am not just learning the new job, but I am I studying about the financial side as well. It is very fast paced, which can sometimes be challenging, though the reward you get from being able to help a client or deal with any tasks that they have needed help with is the best part.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has taken a long time to get going. I have had to wait 5-6 months before I was able to start the course work. This did give me time to learn more about the job, but was frustrating to have to wait a long time before I could start my studying or workbooks.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive regular support from my colleagues in the workplace. This is either through 1 to 1 coaching to support through any appraisals. There are always staff members around to help if required if tasks are going to possibly be too challenging. everyone has a different knowledge level, so I am also able to help other staff members too.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received some support from the training provider, though this is due to the programme only really just getting started. I have met my assessor who is looking to undertake a face to face meeting with me & my manager & also a telephone call. I feel I will get more support once we get fully started into the programme.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The information that I am studying through the training books has helped me within my job. Some of the information that I am reading or the work within my job that I am doing is helping each side. It has made things more familiar for me & I feel this is helping me at work & studying.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of extra networking events that I can attend. This can either be a meeting with the other apprentices in my programme organised by the staff who oversee the Apprentice programme in the bank or external ones sent through by other companies or organised by my team. These are good for meeting other apprentices or just staff members at other companies.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Very good place to work. Feel that I am gaining experience & knowledge which will help me for not just this role, but also any future employment / jobs I may be in. I have been well supported by my managers in not just learning the current role, but also about helping me to progress for the future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • I would advise them to have an idea of what they would like to progress or develop in. This way any 1 to 1s or coaching they get can help them to steer their career & development in the right direction. It is an enjoyable place to work & they would be able to learn a lot here.
