  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a technology apprentice working within RBS. I spend the majority of my time learning on the job with the added support provided by BPP on acquiring technology related qualifications. I work as part of a team and I am given responsibilities to carry out on my day to day routine.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • So far after my first six months in this job I have earned IT communications such as - Systems Architecture and Networking Principles, with more skills being improved upon as time goes on. In terms of my day to day job I am gaining great life experience that will stand me in good stead, especially if I ever wish to pursue a job in a different technical area.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy this programme a lot as it gives me enough responsibility and breathing space to carry out my qualification how I would best prefer to. It does however provide ample support with external learning materials and face-to-face discussions with Learner Officials on how best to spend my time at work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Once the ball got rolling there is a clearly visible outline of what my course entails - with the exception of some dates for face-to-face training. To begin with I would say there wasn't as much information as I would've liked seeing as this was a completely new area of work for me. I taken a couple of months to meet everyone I would be training with and know what qualifications I would be working towards.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am assigned to someone from BPP to help me with any and all queries I may have about my course, they always respond in good time via email or face-to-face if a meeting is arranged. I feel I can always rely on them for a good and informative response.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I perform better in my role because of this added training because it provides me with a wider scope of my job and how I can go about performing my duties to the best of my ability. They also keep a good tab on what my progress is to make sure I don't fall behind with my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • RBS host many extra-curricular activities. They have various Networks that help people from all walks of life. They also arrange for volunteering days to help the local community and really excel in organising professional events - be it conferences, talks group activities there is always something to do at RBS be it internal or external.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are just such a forward thinking, progressive company to work for. To me they break the stigma of working in a bank because there is such a great atmosphere and amazing transparency throughout all areas I have came to see so far. RBS takes pride in providing the best place to work for workers and it shows.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Don't treat it in the sense of 'Applying for a Bank' but more so with an attitude of general competency. RBS looks for people who show great willing and life experience no matter how small an example. This is because they care more about the person they are hiring a little more than the skills they bring to the business.
