Work experience studentsl Review

I was given two supervisors ( two days each) who were trained solicitors in their last year before qualifying as a solicitor. After an introduction on the start of the week we ( all work experience students) met our supervisors who took us to a spare desks where they provided work such as writing a letter of engagement.

I was able to improve my attention to detail and literacy skills through constantly working by writing emails and doing jobs what junior solicitors would be given. Through this I now know what to expect at a top law firm such as Pinsent Mason. Furthermore learning that these skills are needed and knowing that I have them solidified I want to continue into a career in law.

I enjoyed my work experience because the atmosphere and environment was unique. I have visited one US law firm ( Reed Smith) and a silver Circle law firms. They were very strict and formal which almost drained all my energy at the end of the day , whereas at Pinsent Mason the relaxed atmosphere where everyone can speak informal is refreshing.

The work experience was organised fairly well. All workshops and events during the day started and ended on time , furthermore the time table was very rigid however due to the organisation lots of breaks were able to be created . For improvement I suggest putting in more breaks because three hour sitting down is not ideal

The company culture is exactly how they described. Everyone was relaxed in an environment usually tense and stressed in other law firms. The agile desks open up the office which reduces the stress of having to sit next to the heads of the office and the departments. It’s better than every other law firm I have read about or visited.

Not much. I have always wanted to become a solicitor however I believe if someone is really stuck of which area of law to go to , Pinsent Mason is the place to find out. Spending 2 days in two different departments can show the strengths of what to expect in the most popular departments.

I was not paid for completing this work experience however they did offer to reimburse my travelling expenses. I did not take them up on this offer however I do relish it is beneficial to someone who would be in my positing (w/c) . Lunch was also paid for by the firm.

Yes all solicitors were open about contacting through their email and were open whether we could email them or not. All employees that I spoken to were open to giving out their work email. This applies to the employees that held the presentations , general and also the activities. Very good overall

I would recommend pinsent mason due to the fact that the work experience placement offered work and activities that generally help develop your skills and the environment is unique and is something to take in because it may clear the idea of what a relaxed atmosphere really is. So short yes.

Do not stress about presenting a super formal and work first person however show your personality because they value it which is illustrated in the type of employees currently working there. Furthermore I recommend getting to know everyone while you are there because they also like social people in their workplace.
