  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • It involved a lot of shadowing of a trainee solicitor, which was very insightful and interesting. There were also presentations that gave us information on how to become a lawyer and what routes you're able to go into a legal career. We were able to network with current employees too which was useful!

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I developed a lot of analysis skills, as well as attention to detail. This was from the research tasks and summaries I had to carry put! It also helped me develop my style of thinking as a lot of the tasks required a lot of careful thinking to make sure they are completed to the best I could do them!

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I very much enjoyed my work experience as it gave me an idea of what a legal career would entail and if it is right for me. Everyone there treated me as an equal and the overall atmosphere was great! It was really fun to go into different seats too!

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • Very- They gave us a £5 lunch voucher for each day and made sure all the sessions were prompt and didn't overrun and there were lots of tasks to do whilst working. I was never without something to do, which was good as it made it a more fulfilling experience.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • I learnt about the different qualities Pinsent Masons had, and it made me realise why people like working there so much! It had a friendly atmosphere which welcomed me and everyone else! Everyone got on so well which was lovely an it was such a nice environment to be in throughout my work experience there!

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • It was very useful as it gave me an insight into what it would be like to work in a law firm. It definitely made me want to go into a legal career more, as I now have a lot more knowledge. It is also good in the fact that I know that there are many routes into becoming a solicitor.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • Yes we were reimbursed which shows that the law firm take everyone into consideration which reflects their values. It was great as it meant anyone, no matter their background was able to participate on the work experience programme! I was very impressed with this as it wasn't necessary but they did it anyway!

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Yes, we had meetings with our supervisors throughout each day where we could network and see how they got to where they are! This was useful as it gave me the perspective that you don't have to only do a Law degree and there are other options aside from this!

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It was very well organised, incredibly useful whilst being fun! It was an accurate representation of what it would be like to work in a corporate law firm and definitely widens your perspective of law! Everyone was so friendly which make the atmosphere lovely to work in and I can definitely see myself wanting to work there!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Maybe to make sure you are enthusiastic and engage with each task given- this allows you to fully appreciate the experience and it is what makes you get the most out of it! It is an amazing opportunity so to take it seriously is important as it is such a valuable experience.
