  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as a Social Media Adviser for the AA. My role consists of providing customer service to our Members through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, as well as having conversations with them via the webchat service we provide on our website. Alongside this, I complete the Quality Monitoring for our Department, which consists of marking my colleagues work on both Social Media and Webchat.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the course of the Apprenticeship, I have developed a range of leadership skills. In the past I had brief experience of covering teams and acting in a leadership role but I have now developed a range of skills such as Self Awareness, Self Management, Communication, Building Relationships, Project Management and Decision Making. These have all been covered during the modules so far.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the Apprenticeship course. My tutor, Adrianne, is fantastic. She is one of the main reasons that I enjoy the programme. She has an amazing personality, been a great support and makes learning fun. The content of the programme along with my fellow delegates have also made the course enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The progmamme is very well organised. Right at the start of the course, I was provided with a 12-18 month schedule which detailed each module we'd be studying and over which time periods they need to be worked on. The structure is very clear and there are plenty of resources we have been sent to follow this.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My Team Leader has been incredibly supportive during my experiences to date. She constantly checks in with me at 121s to see how I am doing and has made herself available to assist with any questions that I have. I was promised 20% time at the start of the programme to use to gather evidence etc for my course. I don't feel that I have completely received that.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received plenty of support from DoveNest and my tutor, Adrianne. Whenever I have any questions or need some guidance, they are available to be contacted. Whether this is via a phone call, an online chat or an email, they are on hand to help. There have been frequent coaching sessions too.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification does help me perform better in my role as a Social Media Adviser. However, the reason why I decided to partake in the qualification was to gain the skills to become a Team Leader. I have since covered my team as a covering Team Leader and found the skills I have developed came in handy to help with this.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. Within my Department, we focus on engagement and to improve and maintain morale. We partake in a couple of activities each month. These could be small events like having a pizza day or going on a team building exercise like going to crystal maze. We often do these things ourselves but sometimes they are planned and paid for by the business.

  • 9a. Would you recommend The AA to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that the AA is gradually becoming a better place to work but it's still not at the level where I would recommend them to a friend. I don't feel that the pay is competitive for our industry and also the technology is outdated and incredibly difficult to work with.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The AA?
  • I would advise them to carefully consider the role that they are applying for. I would suggest that they are flexible to a dynamic environment, which is ever changing. I would advise them to research the company and what we do/offer before coming to an interview. The brand is built on the heritage of the company would suggest that any applicant would look into this.
