  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis, I may go out and help scope up some void propertys that we have received from the client. I go out to help out with the measurements and make sure everything is okay. I then may do some final accounts in order for us to get paid for the work we do on the voids. I work under a fully qualified quantity surveyor.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As I am a quantity surveyor I will need to accurate with measurements. I have been shown how to get accurate measurements of walls, floors and ceilings (those are the main measurements). I have learnt how to use a laser measure, tape measure and measuring wheel. I have learnt a few new tricks on excel too which helps as we complete a lot of spreadsheets.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the fact I am at work for 4 days and then 1 day at college. You learn a lot of new things every week whilst at work and college just polishes up on everything, whilst also learning new things. I also like the fact there is always some work to do so you never get bored etc.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say its relatively well organised. There are elements where I have to chase things up but overall I am happy with everything. I know where I am going and what I need to do to get there which helps with future planning. There are a range of new/existing projects that I may be able to branch out to.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Not a great deal to be honest. Although I am one of those people that doesn't need much support and therefore I think if i did need more support then I could just ask and they would support me more. If I was behind on my qualifications they would support me more I believe.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It does massively. You learn so much at college that you can bring into your workplace. For example learning structures of buildings, cavity walls etc, all this I can take into my role and I can have better communication with colleagues/clients/subcontractors as my knowledge has improved. You learn a range of different things which all helps, especially from a perspective view.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are a range of different things we can do, for example a bike ride from Birmingham all the way to Cornwall to raise money or a marathon. There are a few events which the client also holds and also we try to go out with colleagues which helps relationships etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Equans to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Engie is a company which is progressing and I believe that they treat all staff well and fairly. We are a massive company to be honest so if you wanted to branch off into a different job role you can or you can even work abroad on projects which would be interesting. Engie also invests in their staff so if you would like a company that's progressive and one that will improve you, then Engie is for you.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Equans?
  • Just come across about how passionate you are to potentially work for Engie. We are a big company that is keen on new technology and acting against climate change so keen on that front then great. If you'd like to improve yourself then Engie is for you. Just be yourself.
