  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • My work experience involved me having to aid and shadow my supervisor. For the first two days my supervisor was a paralegal and the last two days, my supervisor was a trainee solicitor, I had to do a lot of research into cases and also advise my supervisor on how to terminate a contract and which clauses he could rely on to do so.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I have learnt how to summarise an article efficiently, and I have learnt this through my research on Artificial Intelligence and summarising 12 articles into one page. Moreover, I also learnt perseverance as I had to read a 32 page contract and pick out just one clause which my supervisor could rely on for terminating that contract.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I enjoyed my work experience to an extent. If I am very honest it was quite a long day with very minimal to do. Although there was a lot of work allocated, I think the workshops we had in the morning were a lot more beneficial and enojyable for me.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • My work experience has really helped me decide that law is definitley something i would like to pursue in the future. They have really opened my eyes about the variety of tasks a solicitor takes part in day-to-day and has also helped me realise that it is not as repetitive as i thought it would be

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • I was not paid for this work experience. I was however given a lunch voucher to cover my lunch costs if i were to eat my lunch within the law firm. I was also told that any travel costs would be covered as long as we had used a day pass and kept receipts.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • There was not an opportunity for networking as much as I would have liked there to be. However, through the allocation of supervisors, it was very easy for me get to know other solicitors and legal advisors within those specific departments as my supervisor made the effort to introduce me to them

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Pinsent Masons as i believe they are a very good law firm with a very friendly atmosphere surrounding them. The structure of the firm has no form of hierarchy which i believe is extremely important and encourages everyone to be treated equally. All the staff are very well looked after

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • I would inform others that the work experience requires a lot of dedication, commitment and effort. This is because they are very long days which require a lot of thought and effort. Moreover, taking part in a very strict routined day may be quite intimidating to some, but just go for it.
