  • communication with a variety of people in different teams and developed problem solving skills and resolutions. Increased computer skills in using excel in more complicated ways. • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The working section of the programme has been very enjoyable with learning the different aspects of the job. It has been enjoyable to see myself grow with the role and be able to take on bigger challenges as I gain more experience. The education section of my apprenticeship so far has been slower and not as challenging as I expected in terms of the content but the workload has been challenging which has given challenges and is less enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The work section of my programme is structured well as I train whilst working and doing the various processes that my department owns. The gradual take on of more complicated processes and tasks has been managed well. The education side has given challenges in terms of the layout of the course with the provider being confused at points as to which units I needed to take.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager gives me support where its needed to help me complete university work by lightening my work load to give some free hours within the week to complete it. JLR as an employer is supportive of the education requirements that I need to meet for my apprenticeship and would provide help if needed through the work based learning manager assigned to me and to help solve any issues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider gives the university course along with additional online support as required between the university blocks that I take. This enables me to be at work or home and still access university resources for my studies which is very helpful and gives an affective route to getting my unviersity work done.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification gives me a better understanding of base engineering and principles which I can apply to problem solving. The management units are more useful with my department that some of the technical units but the course is tailored for the second half to allow me to choose those that benefit me more for my job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are very few extra curricular activities that I get involved with through work. There are groups of people (other apprentices) that I go and do things outside of work with but that is through our own accord rather than supported by the business. There is little opportunity currently for that at JLR.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • JLR treats its employees well and gives them the opportunity to grow in the roles through the apprenticeship and learn the skills necessary for your specific job role. Within JLR there are a lot of ways to progress after the apprenticeship and the experience of being in work will help with that.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Make sure that you are committed for the 6 years of the apprenticeship and understand that at some points you are going to be frustrated with work & education. This is dependant on how easily you pick up the education format or the job role that you are in and can be different from person to person.
