  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis, I perform testing on the financial aspects of multiple companies. I travel to various companies and speak to hundreds of different people. We use analytics tools to assist in our testing, for example, we can analyse the payroll of an entire company in one year using one tool. There's a lot of variety in my role and it differs from week to week.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills whilst training in my apprenticeship. We get trained both by the Company and by the Apprenticeship provider. Some skills that I have learnt since joining are good time management, organisation skills as well as technical skills such as coding SQL. EY also provides good training in my day to day role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is focused on digital innovation and it is exciting to see the steps that EY are making in order to be more digital in this digital world. At college, we learn lots of technical skills such as coding SQL and System Development. At work, we get training days where we go to workshops and learn about Software Architecture as well as fun sprint sessions where we build apps.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is good for developing my skills and knowledge. However, this is a new course for my company therefore there are some bumps. However, the programme is good for my development and the workshops that I attend in London are well organised and structured. There is room for improvement.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive great support from my employer, during term time for university I get one day off per week to complete my studies and when I have coursework/exams I get suitable time off to prepare if needed. At work you are given a councillor and they provide support and help you with an queries you may have

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive great support from the training provider. We get great material to study from week by week with a separate tutor for each course. It can sometimes be difficult as me and my tutor have different schedules so questions sometimes take a while to be answered but this bolsters my independent skills and working out problems on my own.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my training in my apprenticeship doesn't always reconcile to the work I do at my job. This is because it's a new course for my company and they don't know what the best way to utilise me is. However, we are being carefully monitored to suit our skills to the job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of extra curricular activities to get involved with at work such as Football. We have lots of team events when we complete a project and we all get to together as a department and have events each quarter. This helps create relationships that can helps us in our day to day jobs.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EY provides great support on the job and provides great support in my apprenticeship learning. There are plenty of extra curricular activities available for me and my colleagues. They provide great benefits and offer great experience to further my career. There are many job roles at the company and the option to develop my skills where I want to is a possibility

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would recommend doing lots of research on the company to get an understanding of the things they do and to ensure the job role is right for you. I would recommend looking at specific service lines and what best suits you. There are great videos online and on the website to do this.
