  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • A typical day for me would to see what my workload is and current jobs and see what I can do to price a job as quickly as possible. This may be done by visiting site, getting in touch with subcontractors for a quote or using the book of rates to price the works straight from the desktop.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My mechanical and electrical knowledge since starting the apprenticeship has been gained hugely. Going out to sight can give me more knowledge when pricing jobs as I can visually see the job that needs doing. My college work has also helped along that with the units we are studying currently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The job has become more enjoyable as I have progressed through my apprenticeship as I have now become more independent when a job comes through to me. I also enjoy working with the people around me as I am helped with any difficulty that I may face when having to price jobs.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the programme that I am currently undertaking is well organised as in I am fully aware of what jobs need to be completed throughout the day. My college is organised good as well because all of our lessons are organised and assignment deadlines are realistic enough to complete.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my colleagues and mentors if needing to discuss any difficulty or advise i may need in order to price a job. We have weekly meetings so if any issues i want to raise can be done and potentially sorted out if there was any suggestion that I would want to put forward.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive a pretty good amount of support at college to meet deadlines and to complete the assignments. This is done by putting our lessons on an online system called blackboard in which we also would submit our assignments onto it. We also get additional demonstrations and support if required.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like the majority of the units which I am studying is somewhat useful to my actual day to day job role, there is just the odd one or two which I have studied so far that i feel does not have relevance to my job. Generally the maths and other units have helped me more at work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As i am aware there are many company events and voluntary days within engie as I have already done one of the voluntary days. There are many other company events throughout engie like charity events and various other things which are all advertised on engie's yammer page on the internet.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Equans to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because especially with the apprenticeship I am doing, it is learning a lot of skills whilst also working a full day and having to deal with clients and different people in the company and externally. It can gain your experience massively and would set you up for going straight into a full time job once the apprenticeship has been completed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Equans?
  • Make sure you have full confidence and one or two references when applying for the position. and when going for an interview be fully aware what you will be going to say and make sure to ask lots of questions about the job itself. On assessment try to show the employer how interested you are in the job and the activities you will be undertaking.
