  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves various tasks. For example, I must ensure statutory requirements are met. I draft reports and send them to the relevant parties, I also speak with customers with queries, I liaise with third parties such as HMRC, I deal with pension claims and PPI claims. I help the managers draft fees for the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt lots of new skills as well as developed my pre-existing skills. I can confidently draft letters and emails to third parties and clients in a professional manner with no input from my manager. I have developed my excel skills and can now analyse balance sheets confidently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme. Having started at the same time as my fellow apprentices, I have gained lot of friends which are all my age. There is a great team spirit and absolutely no difference in treatment for the new apprentices and the very experienced managers. There is a great atmosphere in the office.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised. We are constantly provided with online training, some of which are mandatory but we also have training available which anyone can take part in if it interests them. We are given days off work to attend college before our exam and they arrange for our exams to take place.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We all have an individual "counsellor" which is someone that you can go to for all problems and questions and will support you. Everyone has one of these counsellors, no matter which level they are. Everyone understands that you are also studying for exams so if you start getting busy in work, they will help you out so that you have time to revise.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider is Kaplan which is very good at helping us train for our qualifications. Their online website allows you to message the tutors at any time and they get back to you as soon as possible. They provide you with lots of materials and revision books and make sure you are prepared for the exams

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training and qualifications really help you with your every day job as you have a deeper understanding of why you are doing the tasks you are doing. It provides clarity. At the same time, by working in this environment everyday, it really helps with your revision and training towards the qualifications.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always extra-curricular activities anyone can get involved in. We have lots of different networks for a range of different people, and if you feel there is one missing, you are always encouraged to create one yourself! It depends on your team, but my team is very sociable and arranges events frequently.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend EY to a friend because I feel very supported here and know that there is such a huge potential for me to progress and grow here. I know that my career is limited. EY is also very focused on equal opportunities and is a very nice environment to work in

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • My advice would be that in all interviews and assessments it is so important to completely just be yourself. The manager or partner who would be interviewing you will be considering if you would work well in their team and guessing if you would get along with the team members so they can only tell this if you are being yourself.
