  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Everday day is a fun day, to start off with you will be paired up with the best engineers and learn how to fix different types of appliances. such as cookers, dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers. (They will answer any questions you need help with or any kinds of help.)

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, before i started i didn't even know how these types of appliances such as cookers, dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers worked. Now with the help from Birmingham Metropolician college and Team Knowhow. Both companies have helped me to gain my full level 2 White Goods Engineer certificate.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I Enjoyed the whole apprenticeship scheme, because everyone is friendly, likes to have a laugh every now and then and everyone is helpful. Overall, it was different to my expectations because i was expecting it to be a workplace where the colleagues would push you but they are friendly and will help you as much as they can.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Firstly, it is really organised because to start off with, at the beginning of the apprenticeship you are given a rota of your yearly schedule. which will tell you which weeks you are on training with the company, training with the college and days where you are out on the road with a engineer.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Overall, every time i need support, i go to one of my managers and they will give me as much support as they can and try to help me out as much as they can there and then on the spot. (There not the types of people where they will take ages to help you)

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • With the help from Team Knowhow / Dixons Carphone and Birmingham Metropolitan College, they support all apprentices as much as they can really. they will give you loads of sheets, folders with loads of useful information, if you don't understand that you can take home and revise or even use it on the road.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Overall, there is some un neccesary information taught at the college which is not needed for the job role which can indeed stress you out (But you still need this in order to gain the qualification) But however there are useful things that i still use day to day on a daily basis.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few events where some of the colleagues will meet up and participate in different activities such as meeting up to go and playing football etc. Even on training when we met loads of different apprentices all over the country, we set up our own whatsapp groups and met up.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Dixons Carphone to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend a friend to dixons carphone / team knowhow to do an apprenticeship because it is a brilliant company to work for. firstly, it is a decent starting wage that you can actually live on whilst gaining a decent qualification for a lifetime job that will never go out of business.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • The best advice i can give to others applying for different roles at dixons carphone is: Be Confident. Be Yourself. Work Hard. Listen and take note of every single advice you are told. Ask questions if you are stuck. Ask for help when you need it. and they will support you as much as they can.
