  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am involved with the quality department in the company. This involves analysing the warranty claims which customers submit and finding solutions to these problems. This could be done by talking to different specialist within the department or by testing the specific component. The suppliers of these components are often involved and provide support.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My communication skills have vastly improved due to my role being quite dependent on team work and collaboration. Also my technical engineering knowledge has improved due to both the degree learning but also the hands on aspect of my job role. These skills are continuing to develop the longer I'm spending in the apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship program is good because it employs a lot of other apprentices so there is a good amount of people on the same course. It is also good to both work and learn as the learning you are doing is complemented by the work you are completing in the work place.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The educational side of the programme is poorly organised especially in the first couple of years when you are attending Warwickshire college. I was shocked at how poorly they organise and police assignments and exams considering you are gaining a level 4 qualification. However this experience was slightly improved when attending warwick uni however still not what I expected from a university.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • How much support you receive tends to be department dependent. Currently I am receiving time to do University work within my role which is very helpful as it is quite a heavy workload. If i have any personal or in work problems I can talk to either my manager or mentor to get this resolved.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Currently we attend university for one week in every six. During this time we have access to the lecturers for help with work. When we are based at work we can contact the lecturers via email and generally they are very fast to respond to questions in a helpful manner. Therefore I have no issue with the support we recieve from Warwick University.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There are lots of links between what we learn during our time at Warwick uni and my job role. Subjects such as thermofluids and dynamics are directly relatable to most of the quality problems I encounter and therefore find the teaching very useful when solving problems. I often can use work examples in assignments and exams etc.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Within Warwick university there are lots of society's and sporting clubs you can take part in. This makes it similar to the experience of someone attending university full time. Within work it varies between departments, some departments have regular social activities which helps form relationships with your colleagues, however some departments don't have many events organised.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Jaguar Land Rover is a great place to be. It is great to gain a degree whilst getting paid as this means that no student debt is incurred and you get paid a very generous salary at the same time. Generally it is also nice having a lot of apprentices in the same year.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • On the website there are specified behaviours which Jaguar Land Rover expect from their employees. These are really useful to know during the assessment center as you can think of past situation where you have displayed these behaviours but also be conscious of displaying these behaviours throughout the activities during the day.
