  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work within the Body Engineering department, a typical day consists of me constructing robust CAD models using techniques I have learned from training courses while at JLR. In order to successfully deliver these models, I need to research the component to try and fully understand the requirements of the component I'm working on, be it through bench-marking or utilizing previous knowledge.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt plenty of skills during my employment at JLR all very applicable for my job role. The CAD skills I have obtained through the various training course and the knowledge on how to benchmark and obtain information necessary to successfully deliver models has proved invaluable to me throughout my tenure.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As an apprentice work is limited, and often customers from other areas of the business can be challenging to communicate with, however when there is work to be done and other employees help where necessary the programme has provided me with an excellent opportunity and one that I have generally enjoyed greatly

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is very well organised, from the first day we started there was a structured plan, and this has continued through till this day following the completion of my Creator Course. We have a very detailed on boarding framework that is pretty much always followed. This makes life as an apprentice less stressful as we are aware of deadlines etc.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • On the whole the support system here is excellent, the mentor-support, mentor and lead roles are filled with people suitable for the job and one of them is always available to provide support when I need it. While external customers within the business can be a challenge, my particular department excels.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Through the training courses I received all of the help I needed, the support provided from Warwickshire College isn't quite up to the same standard however, while most teachers are more than willing to assist over email etc, communication/contact time with some of them are limited which makes life harder than it may need to be.

    7/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications through Warwickshire College will help me with passing my degree at Warwick University which will eventually benefit me with my job role, however current qualifications are yet to benefit me in significant amounts. The modules that I currently sit that are applicable to my job role haven't been delivered in a manner that allows me to understand them and apply similar principles in my workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are numerous events at JLR outside of the working environment, other apprentices have set up networking events or activities like sports teams externally. Not all have been widely advertised however there are plenty available. Myself and other apprentices are using the ELS to help generate further social activities like Snowboarding.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • My experience at Jaguar Land Rover has been excellent, i have been provided with plenty of opportunity to succeed and develop on both a personal and technical level learning skills that will benefit me no end in the future with my job role and career. The opportunities that lie ahead at Warwick University are also excellent allowing me to achieve a degree from a Russell Group University sponsored while receiving salary at the same time.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • When applying to Jaguar Land Rover ensure you are prepared for all of the entrance testing etc, be confident and be yourself. While the qualifications are obviously essential, JLR employ people not robots, ensure you are yourself. Be prepared to work hard in order to be successful and seek every opportunity that is available to you in order to make the most of the apprenticeship.
