  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an apprentice engineer my day to day role consists of working alongside other engineers in a variety of different tasks from breakdowns to project work. I work through out the site with different members of the team on different jobs every day attending breakdowns and shadowing as well as aiding engineers in resolving problems and keeping the plant running.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned and developed a variety of new skills from both college and work. at work I have learned theoretical and practical engineering skills to aid in my career. and at college i have learned the theory behind machinery we use and how it actually works in order to allow me to problem solve when something goes wrong with these systems.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • if I have ever had a problem at work or college I have received support from my employer in rectifying any problems or concerns. if i have ever been struggling with something and i have informed my manger then i will be given help and training in order to complete the task and to ensure i know how to do it next time

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received more then enough support from my training provider and they have helped my gain my qualifications. i have done three qualifications while doing my apprenticeship and throughout the training providers have helped me in any way possible which has given me a good understanding of engineering theory and skills.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i fell like my qualifications help my by giving m a base understanding of generic engineering systems which has helped me when working on new equipment but like most engineering machinery it is down to experience and how well you know the system your using. my first year at college i learned basic practical skills which gave me a good footing to better these at work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are no extra curricular activities at my work place and if there are I dont know about them. there are things such as a table tennis table in our canteen but there or no teams or anything for it its more of a recreational thing when on your breaks.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Premier Foods to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • i would recommend premier foods because i have had the opportunity to learn new skills and develop ones i already had which hopefully will lead to a fruitful career ahead of me. and i believe for anyone coming out of school and apprenticeship is the best way to learn because you get both practical in house experience and the qualifications to back it up.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods?
  • id would say that in your initial interviews/test you need to stand out and make a clear impression on your potential employers. I would come well dressed and prepare for questions before hand by revising typical questions asked. this way you wont freeze up and you will be able to articulate the conversation in order to show your strong points.
