  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Within Jaguar Land Rover my role is forward planning. This entails looking into future model programs and then looking at the current setup of the production lines. From here we decide any changes that have to be made to the production line to accommodate the new model coming into that specific plant.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This role has helped me to develop my ability to see how to accomplish a task. The job has increased my skills in terms of Computer Aided Design as well as other software such as excel. The job has helped me to develop my teamwork skills when working towards a goal for the company, for example making sure a new product launch goes smoothly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot as it enables me to spend a nice balance of time at and away from my desk. As well as this, it allows me to see all of the new products as well as future products soon to be arriving at JLR. In some aspects there is a good deal of hands on work to be done as well as working on the CAD of the new products.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is good for me. The team I work in is very friendly and I can discuss the job i need to do with all members of the team and they will usually be able to help. As well as this I have a mentor who I can go to with any issues and they will always help me out. As well as that my manager is very approachable and he will also help me out if the issue is big enough that it requires his input.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from JLR in terms of my learning development and any other personal issues that I might have. They will always try to accommodate any personal requests that I may have. I have the opportunity to have meetings with my mentor and manager should I feel the need to have one to discuss how i am getting on and how my learning is going.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • JLR will always help me to boost my learning and get additional qualifications. This includes college as well as on site. The company provides lots of additional online training for us to complete. In terms of my learning outside of the college, the company will always try to accommodate me in this. This may include allowing me time during my day to complete college work as well as allowing me to go to college every week for a day to attend my lessons.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training I have received so far has helped me greatly in my job role. The CAD training i feel has helped a lot as i spend a fair amount of my time looking into CAD models. The essay based work at college has helped a lot when writing reports and any other presentations and stuff as it has helped me to get to the point quickly and clearly etc

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the moment I have not got involved with anything as i am very busy with my work. Saying that, there are many opportunities at JLR for me to get involved with such as football on a thursday after work etc. I have attended a variety of work social events such as leaving meals and stuff like that throughout my time at JLR

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • JLR Is a good place to work, they help you with your development in terms of learning and experience at JLR. The company has been doing the apprenticeship for a long time so there is a good structure for the apprentices and they will always make you feel welcome and supported throughout your journey. as well as this, there is also room for you to experience new things, for example by asking they might allow you to look into something new if it interests you.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • When applying to JLR be ready for anything, and be open to new ideas. When i joined, i applied for a different department to the one i am currently in and it turns out the department i didn't want to be in is the one i am enjoying the most as it gives a good opportunity for me to experience numerous areas of the business.
