  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Customer Experience Finance, specifically with the International PR, Brand Partnerships and Sponsorships, and Events team. I work as a business partner with the marketing teams looking after their budget, carrying out forecasts, approvals, reports and any other adhoc requests they make. In my role I am able to work alongside purchasing (who look at relationships with suppliers), Legal (when we are looking at contracts) and the Global Financial Services Team (for any transactional tasks).

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills over my last few years at JLR from business partnering and other social skills to more specific computer skills including SAP, Access Database. I have been working towards CIMA so have learnt specific accounting skills along with ethical situations/theories involved. I have been able to see many different departments across JLR and been able to see how they all come together including accounting, manufacturing and commercial.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship so far. I have worked in 3 different teams all of which have been very welcoming and friendly! People are always willing to help and work with you to develop. The work is enjoyable which helps massively when the thought of a full day of work comes to mind. It has lived up to my expectations of being a good place to work with many extra benefits too!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had a week long induction before we started working properly in the office, where we learnt more about the company and what we were expected to do. The support available during work is good - we have many different people we are able to go to regarding different queries including a line manager, apprentice manager, cohort manager, mentor, etc. The training (CIMA) provided is good, however it could be organised a little better - things are often planned at the last minute which can be annoying if you have planned things such as holidays.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have regular one to ones with my line manager which are great to discuss things openly. They are in the calendar weekly but have the ability of being very flexible. We have regular SKIP meetings with senior managers in groups within our wider teams which are great to build the relationship with someone who would not necessarily look at your specific work. We are all assigned a mentor when we join and encouraged to meet with them occasionally.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At BPP we receive a lot of support including having a tutor who we can email at any time; a specific performance support team who will email us throughout our studies; and an apprenticeship catch up call once every 3 months to check in and as a place to raise any concerns. They are easy to contact via email or phone and will get back to you quickly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have put some of the things I have learnt at CIMA into practice at work but most specifically in my current role. Our role rotations are planned so we can get the most out of them and cover as much from CIMA as possible. CIMA is not specific to the industry I work in, but helps with more specific accounting work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In my current team we have a social committee who organise off site events after work. These are great to get to know the wider team who sit around me that I do not work with. We have 'lunch and learn' sessions which are a great way to network. There are also town halls planned regularly so we can hear from people around the business regarding current issues/questions.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for - I like how we get to move around departments and learn about many different parts of the business. Throughout the apprenticeship you get to move to 7 departments which you get part of a say on. They try to accommodate you where possible into a role you want. There is a lot of support available, everyone is very friendly, and the experience is of such a high value! I believe it will help my career path develop massively!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Learn about the company Attend careers fairs and speak to people who work at JLR Spend time on preparing for assessment centres/interviews eg reading new articles, read the JLR website Try to get some work experience around finance/the area of JLR you are applying for (doesn't necessarily have to be at JLR, anything is useful!)
