  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I engineer components to be used for the cars we produce. I use CAD software to produce the designs. The designs are influenced by suppliers and colleagues expertise. The designs go through changes and need to meet many requirements and guidelines. I have to communicate to many stakeholders involved in the making of my component.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills so far in my apprenticeship. I have learnt how to problem solve for any issues that arise. I have learnt how to model CAD components that meet the required standard. I have learnt six sigma methodologies, mentoring others and how to manage my own time.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme. I believe the work I do is engaging and challenging enough to motivate me. I seek out opportunities to develop and am urged to do so. My team are a supportive and welcoming especially when I first joined the team. I have moved team since I have arrived but the new team was just as supportive as the last.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is structured and is improving every year. I believe there was some problems before when I first started however these have identified and the relevant people have been notified. These problems have since been fixed. Structure of my work is good. I am urged to take initiative, but I am guided in the right direction.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. I have my personal mentor who helps me through my apprenticeship. They guide me through my work life, uni life and personal life. The HR team have resolved some issues that I have raised personally and I feel they take my issues seriously and I am treated with respect.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive plenty of support from my training provider. They provide plenty of resources and help to guide me through my qualification. They understand the struggle to balance everything. I always wanted to go university and I feel they have gave me a chance to go to university with less drawbacks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • my qualification has already helped me through my job role. I had a small project to calculate some variables through a washer system. Without the education that I had learnt I would not have been bale to succeed with that project I was assigned. Many other modules have been useful through my job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are few things to do with extra-curriular activities. However, they host a challenge every year where lots of employees are able to team build. Also I get a small amount of money to learn a new skill outside of work through a scheme. The scheme is refreshed every year also.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a respected company which makes you feel respected also. I am able to live my life as I want to. There is plenty of opportunity to develop and advance my career here. I look forward to the future at this company and I am glad I started my apprenticeship with them.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Make sure you meet the required grades that they state on the application form, they are strict on these requirements. I would ensure you know what the company does and what they plan to do in the future. Overall, just stay dedicated and determined to get here and you will get it.
