  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently, i am doing a project that will explain what a technician is. this is due to the technician role being a new role within the company. I will be an ABE test technician which is running the tests set by the engineers. These include temperature and pressure reliant testing. this can become dangerous because, in extreme temperatures, batteries will swell and explode

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed team working skills, quality skills and confidence in presenting. I have learned how to ask for help as before i would do myself and if I failed I would give up. I have also learned about mindfulness and how it can help relieve stress in events that may cause stress.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme may cause me to be stressed at times, especially in project work, but the course itself is a great course with a great qualifications at the end. The pay is amazing for a full time worker, let alone an apprentice. Great apprenticeship programme but needs more structure and communication

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of this programme could be better. The college did not quite know what units myself and my group were supposed to be doing until 2 weeks in to starting and even by the end of the firs tyear, one unit had not been scheduled. after plenty of hastling of the college, the unit is underway. I do appreciate, my intake was the first of this course and a new apprenticeship to the company

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My supervisor Is amazing. She will help with anything she can and if she doesn't know the answer, she probably knows who to ask. With the project, we have recently stumbled onto a manager of a department that can help us with our project work and between him and her, we are now able to move forward with our project at a faster rate. meaning we may now be on track

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe Warwick Trident College is not perfect, but [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is a proactive training manager for the college. He has dealt with a lot of our problems in a swift and professional manner. • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The foundation competencies achieved at college provided me with basic fitting skills and milling and lathing tools. Engine strip and rebuild provided me with a more advanced knowledge of engines in general and especially the JLR's 'Ingenium' Engines. Engine theory from Engine design and performance has helped me at work understand why our engines are made as they are and also ask questions about why we don't use particular parts and do use others

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The Jaguar Land Rover challenge is available to do once a year, this is like a Jaguar Land Rover version of Duke of Edinburgh award. Volunteer initiatives are available for 16 hours a year per employee. This allows each employee 2 days of paid volunteer work. Employee Learning Scheme is a incentive that allows you to go on a course, usually a full day to learn a skill and gain a small qualification from it.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its an amazing company, through its minor faults, the company will always pull through. Even through the harder times we have been through recently, we are already pushing back with project charge. Our company produces awesome, eye-catching Vehicles with great quality and stupidly high power. What else could you want to be looking at, working on, driving more than a JLR product

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Go for it and enjoy the apprenticeship. Is there anything better than this apprenticeship? No, Its great, it needs some tweaks, but what doesn't eh? If you want an education then you can go university or apprenticeship but wont get an experience anywhere near like the Jaguar Land Rover experience.
