  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at the moment is to offer support to the various members of my team on the different tasks that they complete. This means a typical day for me can involve me doing work on reports, risk management, Microsoft excel tasks etc. I also have one day a week that is dedicated to completing college assignments and work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my time management skills and my organisational skills as a result of starting this apprenticeship. I am also a lot better at communicating in a work environment by sending emails. My teamwork skills have also been developed significantly and I have learnt lots of new practical skills e.g how to use microsoft excel or how to manage risks

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying it so far. The work aspect of the course is very interesting and I am always engaged and busy with tasks to complete. The academic side of my course is also going very well and I am not struggling to find a balance between work and college work

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured. My team are always on hand to give me new tasks to help support them and will give me help and guidance if I need it. I am able to get a good balance between completing work for Jisc and work towards my qualification e.g. I have Friday dedicated to completing college work and assignments.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. Everyone in my team is friendly and is happy to help me with any issues or problems that I may have. I have a weekly catch-up with my mentor and have fortnightly catch ups with my line manager. These meetings allow me to raise any issues or problems and I can go over the work I have completed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots of support. My training provider has assigned me a skills coach. I can contact my skills coach via email at any time to raise any issues I have or ask for advice on a piece of work I am completing. I have meetings with my skills coach every 6 weeks to discuss both work and academic studies.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my training provider has helped me perform better in my job role because I have learnt lots of useful information and skills tat I can apply to my work. For example, I completed a unit on effective communication in business and I know feel that my methods of communication are more effective and I am a lot better of doing it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I am aware of. We have a Jisc yammer group, where people create groups that they can post into e.g. there is a tv and cinema group where people can post opinions and have discussions about TV and cinema. In my Bristol office, there are no sports teams to be involved in. We also sometimes have pizza days where pizza is ordered into the office and people can be social.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Jisc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Jisc because I think the organisation cares about its employees and they offer very good opportunities for young people. I have already met the mayor of Bristol through working at Jisc and other apprentices at the opportunity to go to the houses of parliament. Jisc is also a really nice place to work as everyone is friendly and there is a relaxed atmosphere.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Jisc?
  • Make sure that you are aware of the values of the organisation as they are a huge element of the recruiting process. Do some research on the company before any interviews, as it always looks good when interviewers can see that you have done your research on the organisation. Try to show off teamwork skills when you go to an assessment day.
