  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role at Component Level Repair consists of a multitude of things depending on what department I am on for the week. If I'm in the Dev Lab my day to day consists of stripping T.V's down to the barebones and replacing faulty components, it can go as far as removing capacitors from power supplies.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a lot whilst being in this department - mainly soldering, I had soldered before but there was so many different methods and tactics used to do different things that was a huge (but pleasant) surprise. I've also learnt a lot about how a tiny component can have such a huge effect on the overall use of the unit, be it a TV, laptop or mobile phone.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I wake up at 5am every morning I'm on shift actually wanting to go to work and get stuck in, because there is no same job in my department. I get to keep that "first week excitement" of a new job every week. I feel very lucky to be where I am with what I have.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure from classroom to work is amazing, I can come into college and have a lesson plan emailed to me before we start and then we get a run down of what is going to happen though out. At work we usually have a briefing every morning around 9am to give updates on what is happening in the business and our department so we are never out of the loop.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When ever I have an issue be it personal or work related, I can always trust my specialist or Front Line Manager (FLM) to help me find a solution for it. Even if its just time away from work to complete college work in work hours they are fully supportive of how important is it for everyone involved.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor always goes above and beyond, I did a level 2 qualification before this one and struggled some what but despite having to help another 11 students he still managed to find time to help me numerous time, I don't think I would of been able to pass this course without the help and support he provided me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • After passes level 2 and continuing to do a level 3 course - I have actually been given a promotion at work to a more technical department where I can really hone in on the skills I've gained from the courses. Instead of using 50% of what I learnt I can now use 100%.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At work we have our very own work chat that works on the same premise as Facebook, so we can keep in contact with every employee in the business, we are able to join groups so we can see what's going on all over the country and in our overseas / airport stores.

  • Dixons Carphone not only support your progression they help you to achieve it. Dixons Carphone never looks at a person as incapable - they have a job for everyone and will help you work towards gaining the knowledge you want to progress your career. It really is a company for life.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • The best advise I could give would be to be patient, a lot of colleagues start on an Agency contract and then work up to a contract with Dixons carphone.
