  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The Work Experience programme involves day-to-day responsibilities within your department, being supervised by your trainee to carry out filing of client documents to create organised folders and record and format time sheets for client invoices. Internal interactions are another responsibility, eamiling work back to your superviser and carrying out further tasks for other trainees/members of the practice group you are in. Furthermore I have taken part externally in meetings with opposition lawyers, my responsibility being to note take and create meeting minutes to ensure everything that has been said is recorded.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Note taking in meetings in order to create meeting minutes is a new skill for me as it requires full concentration and understanding for an extended period of time, which is actually very difficult. I have developed existing skills such as filing but with more detailed documents needing to be indexed etc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has exceeded my expectatiopns in terms of experiencing meetings and being more involved than I thought I would be. The team in all practice groups have been welcoming and willing to talk further about their own work and their own careers which has given me further insight, ensuring I experienced an impressive company culture which has encouraged me to look into other programmes the company does, i.e. the Gap Year Programme.

  • To a large extent I felt a valued member of the team in terms of having to complete important tasks effectively, although it is definitely harder to fit into the team when you are only part of it for a day before you move on to a different practice group.
