  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work with the account managers of the business, allocating invoices against accruals that they ahve set up - these can be promotional invoices for retros or even lumpsum agreements that they have agreed to pay the customer. I work closely with the credit control department to ensure that the accounts are clear and that all deductions that the customer makes are coded correctly

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting, I have learnt more and more about the credit control function. I have learnt about the laws and why we deal with customers the way that we do and learnt the background of setting customers up and the liabilities and risks that we take when accepting new customers to do business with us.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed learning about all the different types of credit that is on offer and different types of accounts that can be had in a credit function. I have especially enjoyed learning about business law, this topic is very interesting and it is interesting to see all the different pieces of legislation that make up the way you work as a business

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I find the programme to be very well organised, the topics that are covered are able to relate to the work that is done on a daily basis and it gives reasoning to the decisions that are taken by the credit manager and the head of the accounts receivable team.

  • My employer is very supportive when it comes to the programme. I am allowed to take time to complete my study and homework which really benefits me. I also feel able to ask questions to senior staff with regards to any matters I don't understand about the credit control function.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is supportive with regards to the qualifications. I see Craig at least once a month in which we discuss how I am progressing, any issues I may have and even do observations which count towards my qualification. We discuss homework and tasks that need to be completed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that I have a better understanding of credit control as a whole. I am able to better understand the reasoning behind decisions that are made, able to understand the next steps that must be taken if we are having troubles with a customer and even relate that to the law side of the business.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In our place of work, we have a very varied range of activities that are available to us. We do a lot of charity work for our charity partner so we always have events running to raise money whether that's a charity bake sale or even a walk. We also have many social events in our department and also social work functions

  • 9a. Would you recommend Premier Foods to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a very good company to work for. They provide a lot to its employees and it supplies us with lots of social events and company goods. Even the fact that they provide us with tea, coffee and bread is a bonus as most companies don't do that nowadays

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods?
  • The key thing when working for Premier Foods is the values. In order to do well, you need to learn all about the 5 values that we use in our every day working life and how you can improve both yourself and your work by incorporating them in to what you do.
