  • Waste team, sorting and segragating waste To ensure the effective cleaning of allocated areas in a timely manner in accordance with company standards To identify potential safety hazards, reporting to the line manager as necessary To assist in the collection of all types of waste as laid down in the Statement of Requirement or as requested by the customer

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt about different types of waste and how to classify them what correct personal protective equipment to wear learnt correct training for various things such as traffic marshalling waste handler courses how to sign out blue labels organise high bin collections good people skills communication skills team building information on other buildings

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Enjoy learning about the company and working with my team, the work itself could be better however (waste) its not the most glamarous job in the world and i enjoy learning a lot about other buildings including the one i am in (other areas etc.) as it is an interesting place

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • First year was ok however feel second year been unorganised due to new people taking over the old people left and new people had to pick it up quite fast which was hard as they needed to get passes for the building which took a while so we got a bit behind in our second year

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Some people extremeley helpful, others not so much the people from the training program in our second year where very nice but a bit unsure and unorganised due to the switch over, the woman who dealt with all the apprentices in sellafield is very good and helps out a lot in terms of team leader he can be ok

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Some people extremeley helpful, others not so much the people from the training program in our second year where very nice but a bit unsure and unorganised due to the switch over, the woman who dealt with all the apprentices in sellafield is very good and helps out a lot

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Sometimes feel as though the qualification and job role are completely different things and feels like i'm working on two seperate things at times it was quite hard to relate the questions to waste so i had to improvise a lot and felt like both things were getting in the way of each other rather than working hand in hand

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not sure haven't looked into it not something that i think i would be interested in im sure there are a lot of these as it is a very big company and people there love to get involved in lots of different things i just havent looked personally myself

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sellafield Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Very interesting place to work, good money despite the new contracts which can be a bit of a let down, lot of good people work here, job for life. Its such a massive place to work there is bound to be a place where someone would love working there if they are fourtante enough to fall into that team/role


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sellafield Ltd?
  • Make sure they are aware of the new terms and conditions, tell them the different roles and what they are like on site as you have a better understanding once doing the job and seeing what others do before applying you would read the role description but in the end when you actually get put in a role it can be something completely different
