  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role is a front of house apprentice and my job role involves serving guests their food/drink, taking food orders, handling cash/card payments. In my job role i also prepare desserts and on the night during closedown i will take out puddings to defrost, label and day dot food, cleaning and following law and legislation

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt loads of new skills such as how to deal with complaints appropriately, following law and legislation within the workplace, working with different people from all different backgrounds to contribute in making a guests visit an amazing one and also learning how to go above and beyond here.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my programme because i have learnt different types of service and how it fits into the hospitality industry. I've learned in depth about law and legislation and making sure i follow these every day i come into work. I have enjoyed my programme so much that i know this is the correct career path for me and i will be going onto the next level with big goals for the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the start of my programme it was a little all over the place as my regional trainer left and i had phone call visits for around 3-4 months which wasnt working for me. I had a new regional trainer who was absolutely amazing. They saw that i was not as through with my apprenticeship as i should have been and helped me catch up with all my work and helped me whenever i needed it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive the right support when i ask for it. My employer would ask how i am getting on with my apprenticeship and if i am ever struggling i know i can talk to my employer and they have given me great advice/help and even sat down with me and helped me with my work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At the start i felt as though i wasn't really supported enough when my regional trainer left. But since i had my new regional trainer they have been absolutely amazing! They sat me down at my first meeting with them and talked through all my work that needs catching up on and talked me through anything i was struggling with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my training provider has helped me perform better by learning different things about the hospitality industry and how important the guests are and different things such as market share. This has helped me perform better in my job role because i understand the importance of market share and how to beat targets through things like upselling and bringing new guests to the business.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Every year we have a national apprenticeship week (which i have been involved with twice) and the company, management and staff celebrate the importance of apprentices and also learning ways to support their apprentices by us giving feedback. We also have something to eat and an activity to do about our apprenticeships and our goals.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mitchells & Butlers to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Mitchells ans butlers is a brilliant company to excel in. There are many opportunities to excel whether through apprenticeships or just through training and experience. For example, i am going to be doing a team leading level 2+ course and i feel very supported and ready to excel and i feel i can reach my goals easily.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mitchells & Butlers?
  • To be prepared but also expect the unexpected. You will come across many people from all walks of life in your every day job and some people my need more of your attention than others - its just learning the balance and how to approach tricky situations with the help of management and then when you are ready, face the issue head on to build your own confidence. This will help you succeed.
