My role at Accenture manly consists of application support for a major business in the UK. My day-to-day duties consist of contacting clients, resolving issues and problem solving. My role can also expands to software development in a UNIX environment/oracle databases and also traveling to client sites for project work.
I have learnt many skills throughout my apprenticeship through university and through my every day role. I have learnt to program in several different languages such as: shell scripting, SQL, PLSQL, SAS and Python. Alongside these skills I have also vastly improved my personal, organisation and social skills while working in a team.
I really enjoy the apprentice program at Accenture because it has allowed me to further my skills in something that I am generally interested in. Everyone at Accenture are very friendly and always willing to help, therefore if you ever have problems there is always someone that would help you.
The apprentice program is organised well, the normal structure for apprentices is either: attend college for 2 years and then complete the final degree at university or attend university for three years. Prior to joining Accenture, I already obtained a foundation degree in IT therefore Accenture allowed me to complete a top up degree.
When an apprentice first joins Accenture, they are assigned a buddy. These buddies are there to guide you through your career at Accenture. Alongside this I have always received very good support from my team lead, professionally and personally. My experience within Accenture that is that everyone is willing to help each other.
I have received excellent support from Accenture staff members and the university. Throughout my studies I came across several aspects that I was struggling with, however thanks to my co-workers they provided me with guidance on how to proceed and further my knowledge so that I could complete my degree.
At Accenture I am on a role that uses bespoke software that is not industry standard, therefore my work at university was not directly compatible with my role. However, from a degree prospective, the tutors did an excellent job in tutoring and I receive a first-class degree in digital and software solutions.
Accenture provide extra-curricular activities such as brown bags and volunteering at local charities. Brown bags are held on a regular basis that a subject expert provides knowledge to others in the given topic. Accenture also holds multiple events throughout the year for networking between staff members, these are an excellent opportunity to meet new staff members.
Yes
I have previously recommended Accenture to friends and family because it is a good company to work for. All staff members are friendly and are always willing to help each other. For example, I wanted to finish a piece of work before going home however it was a time-consuming task, my team lead stayed late so that I could finish the work faster.
To join Accenture all you need is a keen interest in technology and the desire to further your ability technically and socially. Post joining Accenture it was apparent that apprentices are encouraged to be involved with school events and charities. Therefore, an interest in helping others is also good to have.
