  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day activities involve supporting the client team in the development and maintenance of innovative IT systems. This involves software development in order to develop new features in line with requirements as well as bug analysis to identify current issues with the system and the steps required in order to fix.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • A huge amount of new skills have been developed since starting. Using completely new programming languages has required lots of training and development of skills in addition to learning the agile process to ensure that I integrate into a high-pressure teamwork environment. Furthermore, I've also been able to develop current skills in this role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is very well put together, the time put aside for training is what other employers could seek to match. Supporting apprentices with enough training time allows apprentices to excel at their training provider whilst not impacting the business needs or taking away from the on the job experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • A very well structured programme with contact points and support well thought out to ensure that apprentices have no issues whilst completing their programme. On the job experience is not limited to particular areas so developing skills in developing and innovate areas is more than possible, which is good to see.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • More than enough support is offered by the employer. Enough time is put towards training to ensure that the support is there. Regular calls are set up with the programme lead team to make sure that if there are any issues that these are heard and more importantly actioned in time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider, in addition to weekly lectures, has a very good online portal which makes accessing lectures and content easily. Every few months a representative from the training provider engages in a call to ensure that any issues at the university are raised and acted upon to ensure there are no issues.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Skills developed at the training provider are essential for performing better on the job. Getting a good understanding in the fundamentals have meant that whilst on the job I have been able to build on these fundamentals and gain further skills and more advanced skills in areas covered by the training provider.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many social events and activities organised by the company to engage the apprentices, not just in localised regions, but across the country, often bring people together in a geographically centred location to engage this growing community. Additionally, there are also weekly engagement calls across the different teams of the business.

  • Yes

  • Very well thought out and put together programme with the correct support and skills offered. The variety of work and industries that the organisation operates in is endless meaning that developing new skills is more than possible.

  • To use the website and understand the industry. More importantly, have a passion for the technology industry.
