  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I look after the running of the kitchen - creating all the meals that go out to spec, unpacking the deliveries when they come in, deciding what the food orders should be and completing all the training for and looking after a team of 8 chefs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The apprenticeship helped me understand how to run my team better, and the masterclasses also helped me learn how to work with fresh produce and gain new skills - including butchery and game which I had never used before. The masterclasses gave me a new way of looking at cooking and a new passion.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme - its the best training I have ever been given whilst I have been with M&B. M&B has a culture focused around training so there are loads of different opportunities but I definitely think this one has made me a much better chef than before

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • V well organised - I am given all my dates in advance for the masterclasses and have seen my trainer every 6 weeks so far to keep up with my work. I am on track to start my End Point Assessment soon once I have completed the maths and english Functional Skills

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Loads - M&B encouraged me to start this programme and I have been given loads of spare time to work on my projects and do all the work that is required. My manager likes to hear about what I have been up to and how I can implement what I have learned in the workplace to make it better for everyone

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They are very helpful and my Regional Trainer always makes sure I know exactly what I need to do next. Every time I need him I know I can just drop him a text or give him a call and he will help, support and guide me where they can.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the qualification helps as it gives me the theory that I put into practise every day - and reminds me of some of the things that I had forgotten about. Everything I learn is relevant to what i do in my day to day job so makes me a better chef and leader

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As our pubs are nationwide and unsocial hours its hard to always do this - but we have a very social pub where we all get on with the regulars who visit, and where can there are competitions and opportunities within our district to go out and meet employees from other pubs

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mitchells & Butlers to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would because it is one of the best pub companies i have ever worked for. There are so many opportunities to earn, learn, grow and develop here and you really do get out as much as you put in. I could move and work anywhere in the country and always have a job as MAB would support me

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mitchells & Butlers?
  • I would say to show that your are passionate, confident and eager to learn. We are always looking for people who have a real interest in the industry so as long as you can show this in your interview then working for MAB is a really good opportunity for your career
