  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Role i am currently in is DevOps, i have been in this role for just over a year, it is a very valuable experience, i get access to a highly sensitive project and surrounded by professionals really rubs off on you, learning so much from everyone allows college work to be easier, as we learn it on the job.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining i have learnt so much within the IT sector and not just a particular sector, before joining i had only built a computer before. Now i feel confident to manage it from a software aspect, including creating scripts to automate tasks for myself, moving on premise servers to the AWS Cloud. I have learnt so much in terms of software vendors, databases and infrastructure.

  • Really enjoying the opportunity the program provides. Utilising additional activities to further my development not just professionally but personally, getting involved in after work code clubs and putting myself forward for training and delivering training helps my personal skills to develop such as leading and delivering presentations, negotiation, confidence and problem solving/team work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It has some structure, college was late to enroll. We always have first point of contact for any issues experienced on the programme. We also get monthly news letters and community discussions to help get involved with the wider community which is a great opportunity to network with others effectively.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Line manager (person i report to) on the project was very helpful, understanding and really provided me with a platform (DevOps) that i can use to learn grow and experience professional processes that are involved with building, running and maintaining a live service. Here i was able to network with experienced colleagues.
