  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Most days I am out of the office at clients. We have a software called AUD-IT which essentially has a load of questions and sections which we then go through and answer. I interact with a large variety of different people and work with different clients and colleagues most weeks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed massively since starting at RSM. My confidence is so much better as I have been thrown in at the deep end having to interact with different clients and colleagues of all different ages and backgrounds. My accounting skills have of course improved as well, as I came into the apprenticeship with no prior experience and my computer (especially) excel skills have improved greatly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot. Weeks fly by and the people are really helpful and easy to talk to. I have learnt a lot of new things and my character has developed a lot. Working at different clients each week give me an insight into all different types of businesses and I believe will set me up really well to move on into a business based career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is organised well, it has been perfected over the years that it has been in place. Kaplan are sometimes a struggle and it can get a bit confusing as to where you are meant to be and when and what level you are at, but my training manager sorts any small issues out quickly and effectively. So overall, on RSM's behalf the programme is well organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • RSM offer us huge amounts of support. We have regular catch up meetings, team days and all staff meetings where we can raise any issues we have come across. We also received a high amount of training to get us up to speed quickly and all our exams and training is paid for by RSM

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan have a website called mykaplan where you can access a large variety of training materials and where you can easily contact your tutor out of hours to ask any questions you have. Kaplan are very exam focused and teach you how to pass the exam and do not get caught up on the small irrelevant areas of a course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Studying towards my AAT has helped me develop massively. I understand my day to day job better and it has made me a lot more independent as I no longer have to rely on my supervisors to help me through an issue. The mixture of technical study and practical experience will really help me do well in my career.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There's a ton of groups and teams to get involved in. For example there is a 5 aside football team, Netball team and much more. We have very regular Networking events with an organisation called hotshots and internal team outings. There are also a lot of groups to get involved in, including LGBT & Diversity groups.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • RSM is a great place to work, I am out and about all the time and the week flies by. The office is also great, everyone is on one level and all departments are integrated. Each and every colleague is happy to help and everyone wants to help you through both college and work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • Prepare before each stage of the process to ensure that you are ready for any questions they may ask, also make sure you appear confident and sure in your answers. Lastly, always be yourself. RSM love to have a diverse and authentic team and it makes work a lot more relaxed and fun when people can be themselves.
