  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I take care of my patients wellbeing, their personal care, any bloods or samples including ECGs that need taking I do those. I mainly work on AMU but I also get transferred over to ACU on a fairly regular basis to help with GP referrals and other referrals from the A&E department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Regarding knowledge I have learnt a lot about different medical conditions and learnt more about the ones I already knew about. With new skills I have learnt how to perform a variety of things including taking ECGs, taking sample bloods, carefully taking swans and urine samples and having the ability to correctly explain why these are needed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme as it is on topics which I find interesting and I have been introduced to a class of beautiful people and we all help each other out with our various tasks that have been set for each other, my tutor is also on hand and I find her very helpful.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had a rocky start but once we got going it is quite well organised and well prepared by our tutor. We have regular meetings and all know what is expected of us both in the lessons and outside of them in preparation for the next lesson and exams coming up.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do not receive as much support as I would hope from my employer. The reason I feel this is because I don't get as much in the job training as I really need. I do plan to bring this up with my employer but working in a hospital I understand that there are more crucial jobs.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider, my tutor is also constantly on hand to help me via email, text or phone call. They also know the answers to all the questions I have and as a result I am very happy with them as a student.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that this qualification will help me more within my job once I have completed it. The qualification matches my job role perfectly and is helping me to gain a higher level of knowledge within this field. I enjoy every lesson and look forward to applying the knowledge to my job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No there are no activities through work but my class and myself have booked on to activities for ourselves to do outside of work. Working within a hospital environment I do appreciate that it would be logistically hard to have extra curricular activities but working with such a variety of people we can always organise these ourselves.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend NHS to a friend because I love it! If you are working in care I think it is a great place to be. There are so many great people to meet, a huge variety of things to learn and medicine is also constantly changing so keeping up to date with new medicines is hugely helpful and important for all care workers.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • When applying for a job within the NHS I would say it is important to always care about the work that you do even if it is not dealing directly with patients. The NHS is a huge organisation and it really needs hard working people in every department to work together.
