  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a typical day, I will assist customers with any queries that they may have, assist them in placing orders, manage stock around the store and ensure that the aisles remain tidy. Some days I will be required to use a till and serve customers if the store is particularly busy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Over the course of the time I have worked for B&Q I have become a lot more confident and have learned a lot of people skills, In addition to this I have developed a wide range of product knowledge which allows me to better assist any customers who don't know about particular products.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy being on the apprenticeship program as it allows me to further my academic knowledge and earn a professionally recognised qualification whilst also doing more manual work and getting paid whilst doing both, this works well for me as I can be bored by just doing academic work but I am interested in that side of the business.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very well organised as I always know what modules I am required to complete and if I have any queries then I am able to ask my trainer who will guide me to completing the tasks, in addition the tasks are very well broken down into research and activities which helps to prevent the learning from becoming boring.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a massive amount of support from my employer, they are very enthusiastic about me doing the course and are willing to help me 100% of the way through it, they also allow me 20% of my contracted hours to study, which helps give me the time I need to complete my course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification helps me to understand the theory behind a lot of the tasks that I would carry out an a day to day basis, an example would be a module I completed on understanding the customer's needs which has helped me streamline the experience for many customers, allowing them to go home happy.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My place of work typically has a few out of hour activities we can participate in, for example nights out, this is good as it allows us to bond as a team and means we are able to work together as a team better, which shows to the customers as well.

    10/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend B&Q to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The policies are very fair and all of the employees are great, it feels more like you are joining a family rather than a company, in addition it seems like everyone wants everyone else to succeed rather than trampling on each other for personal gain which helps you to feel more at ease at work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to B&Q?
  • It helps if you are confident and know which areas you are strong in and which areas you are weak in, even if you are not particularly confident, the managers are very good at spotting potential and will likely give you a chance, even if it would be the first job you have ever had.
