  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am software engineering apprentice. I work in different roles dependent on what project I am put on. This could include working in testing, development or as a BA. I interact with lots of other people working on the project. This is a great experience as everyone has usually been at the company longer than me and are supportive.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have developed my communication skills massively. Working at such high pressure and tight deadlines means you become a lot more organised too. Time constraints mean you have to be more reliable and work within deadlines. Also naturally your technical skills develop massively eg. Java programming as it's required for my project.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love this programme. It has allowed me to learn so much in such a small span of time. But more than that it's allowed me to meet so many amazing people from all walks of life. I've been able to learn something from every person I've come across.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised and structured. There's always someone available if there are any problems. Training programmes are always there to do in your free time to develop yourself and stay productive. Everyone is so patient and understanding of your situation also. Finally you get a careers councilor to guide you the whole way.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot of support from all avenues. Mentors help when you need help about what path to take next. Your manager is there to help you within the project. Easy to access any support through email or through pings which is also good. Everyone is patient and understanding and the relevant people are available for you.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Here the support is very very very poor. Accenture have been amazing but the less said about the University of East London, the better. Firstly there's no clear person to go to when you have problems, and problems there are many. The biggest one is that they didn't register us in time so after paying £25 for an apprentice oyster card, we couldn't even use them. University of East London have been really really really poor, unfortunately.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Not at all. They are completely unrelated and there is no crossover. There is a java module which helps a bit but otherwise the other modules are just there to pass an exam. Otherwise what you learn cannot be applied in the work world or any projects. Would be helpful if there was more crossover but it's difficult as projects are so specific.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. there is a lot on offer. including sports, religious groups and other stuff. Its quite good as it brings people together however needs to be advertised more. I had to go looking and find contacts. Maybe an email should go out. These groups themselves dont do anything regularly but then everyone is busy

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Amazing unique experience. The people who you get to meet are especially amazing. There are people much more experienced than you who you can learn unlimited things from. You are thrown straight into the deep end which is the best way to learn and you get paid without university debt. What more could you ask for?

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Be prepared to work. Then be prepared to work some more. It can be incredibly straining physically and mentally to work and study at the same time. Just because you study doesn't mean any less is expected of you at work. You must complete your university studies as well as succeed at work and achieve there too
